Photographer/Videographer

Photographer/Videographer

I am starting to research vendors but I'm not really sure where to start with the photographer and videographer. I am definitely on a budget but pictures are obviously important and I don't want anything with bad quality either just to save money. Does anyone have any suggestions for reasonable prices but good work? I would appreciate any help!!

I would start with a ballpark of what you are willing to pay or can afford. You can find photographers for $1,000 or $10,000, though I think most fall in the $2,500-3,500 category on these boards. Then, after you establish your price range, ask for suggestions within that price range. It doesn't make sense to just randomly look at websites, unless you just have some time and want to take a look at different ones for ideas.

We used Peter Jacobsen for both photo and video, www.pjphoto.net and were extremely happy with him. Our pictures our beautiful and our video is the most NON-CHEESY video I have ever seen.

Other photographers that I met or liked were Willi Wong, www.williwongphotography.com and BRE tt M atthews, but both were out of my price range. A lot of girls on these boards love Angelica Glass as well - she has a cool unique style. It wasn't for us as we wanted classic, photojournalistic photography, but you might like her.

what kind of style are u interested in...and what types of pictures. the knot.com also has a long list of photographers with little $ signs that tell you which ones are more expensive etc.

then after you whittle down the list to the ones u like...u can search for reviews on here.

duet, patken, velvet seem to pop a lot on these boards

I was very confused when I looked for a photographer/videographer. I think the suggestions above are great...figure out what you want first, then look. One person 'great price' is another's 'too expensive'. Also, some packages come with more, but decide if you really need/want the more. I also think it is very important to 'click' with your photographer...I wanted to meet my photographer (which you sometimes don't get with the bigger studios). Don't be afraid to use a vendor that isn't popular on the board. When I booked my photo/video guys they weren't that well known on liweddings. Now they seem to be very popular.
I am using Golden Moments Dan Saviano. They worked with me to put together a great package and I get along with them really well . I have engagement shots in my album if you would like to see their work.

welcome, congratulations and GOOD LUCK!

I had a meeting with Peter Jacobsen and he has amazing pictures. The photographer we went with however is Andreas Rentsch from A Candid Affair. Both have similar photography styles and prices, but we clicked more with Andreas. Good Luck!!!

you may also want to check out the house vendors from your reception hall. sometimes they'll give you a discount for booking with them, which could ultimately save you some money.

I am using ADA and I am getting everything for around 6000 which is great. We booked early though... last May in fact, the earlier you book the better the price!

Totally agree!

They are very unique and cater to the couple's needs and personalities so that each album and video is completely different from the next--there are no cookie cutter albums or videos from them. Also very, very nice guys to work with and comfortable.

We have Duet. They are fantastic. They did our engagement pictures a year ago and I still want to look at them often because they did such a beautiful job. Their video too was what initially sold us... it had outstanding quality. They are also very affordable. At the time we booked (in early 2005), they were the most affordable place we had seen. Things may have changed from now since they have gained so much popularity, but I highly recommend that you make an appointment with them. Good luck!!!
