Photography Classes

Has anyone ever taken photography classes? I would love to take some.

Yes, here in VA. They were adult ed classes. I took basics of photography and also black and white photography (we got to develop our own pictures!)
It was fun! I want to take some more classes soon.

I did in high school, then in college. A lot of the local community colleges offer them for or without credits. It's a lot of fun! Now I prefer doing it on my own with my digital (much of the classes were developing techniques, etc).

Thats funny, I was looking at a booklet that I received in the mail yesterday from Suffolk Community College and I asked myself the same question. I always wanted to, but never brought myself to sign up for the classes.

Yes, when I was in College. I absolutely LOVED it.

When we move I would like to find a class. I took an acrylic painting class at Queens College a couple years ago and it was fun.

I did in college...And I had to withdraw from the class. The chemicals made me sick...And all the math/science involved in it bored me anyway...
I'll stick to snapping...Someone else can develop.

I took courses in HS and College. I loved it. Hofstra has a very good Continuing Ed Photography class with a lot of people of varying ages. I would see them in the darkroom sometimes.

I love photography, but if you're doing traditional film photography there is a LOT involved. There's math and chemistry and mess (I've ruined a LOT of good clothes!) And there's a lot of expense. Assuming you already have a suitable camera, I've always sepdn $200-300 in supplies on every class.

I'm so the opposite the previous poster. I get really frustrated shooting. I love printing.

The Institute of Photography has classes but theya re expensive Like over $200 per class.

My DH & I print B&W's over at Printspace on 17th & 6th ... it's cheap, like $24 for 3 hours and they give you all the solution. All you need is your negatives and photo paper.

We haven't tried color yet, I heard it's very hard to reprint in color.

WOW. That's really cheap. Do you need an appointment? What kind of equipment do they have?

I took a number of classes in college and I LOVED them. Adelphi is nice if you take a class there they allow you to come back anytime after the class and print - Unfortunately with my schedule I never got to do that.

Something to keep in mind when looking for a class is if the printing materials are including. Paper and other supplies, like development canasters, etc can add up to a lot FAST. I think most continuing ed programs or community colleges will offer a class - also check some towns offer the classes for adults but you might take it evenings at the local HS
