Photography - Help! Caught in a bind! I'm venting!
I have spent countless hours trying to search for a photographer because I really want to have beautiful photos to look at when the wedding is all said and done. I also want to have a beautiful DVD to look at after my wedding is finished so that I can remember my wedding. However, I guess I have expensive taste because if I wanted my first choice, it would be ~$10,000 for both.
My parents are paying for the wedding, and we spent more money than we wanted on the ceremony site and reception (Riverside Church). I try to tell myself that I will not splurge on other things (like the dress or the flowers, or the invitations). I made the mistake of telling my mom my choices for the photography (ranging from $3,000 - $10,000) and she blew a fuse. She thinks that money spent on photography, flowers and music are not that important. Instead I should get a good makeup artist and hair person and focus on saving my money.
So my personal choices for photography& videography: Something in Blue (Min $5000, but amazing work) Kenny Pang (Min $3600, but I like his style) 5 West Studios (for both - I love their video style)
Now I'm considering: A Candid Image (for both) - not too much input on the boards Maria Nelavera
WHY DO WEDDINGS HAVE TO BE SO EXPENSIVE!!
Any good deals without a drop in quality and quantity that you recommend?

I chose Barnaby Draper and he is amazing and has two amazing staff photographers that are considerably less than his fee. His album packages are amazing and for less than a price of a single album from most photographers, you get EIGHT albums and 100 images set to your favorite song on dvd.

I'm using Kenny Pang, and I think his minimum package is $3300. You could keep it simple by not getting a second photographer, etc. and making your albums at www.mypublisher.com. That would be true with any photographer.
As far as video goes...there is a videographer with 'Rose' in its name, and the minimum package is at $1,000.
ALso, a lot of brides on her LOVE LOVE LOVE Thomas Paul, and apparently for in the $3000's, you can get all your albums and a full day out of him (not sure the EXACT number).
Are you giving yourself a budget for photo and video combined? I searched SO MANY photographers, so FM me if you need help!

I am using JeSsIcA PhOtOgRaPhY and the owner and photographer is Jack Brolly. My brother had used him in his wedding and he did an awesome job. He's a sweet person to work with, he will do the best he can price wise, and his work is great. He had different styles depending on what you are looking for. I totally understand your situation since I'm on a pretty tight budget myself (and I have asian parents too...) . But after seeing a lot of my friends unhappy upon seeing their proofs, we told ourselves that our one splurge would be photography.
Is there anyway you could negotiate things with your parents so that you could have the photog of your choice? Maybe you could suggesting paying for the photog yourself (since your parents are paying for everything else)?
After all, your hair and makeup lasts only one day....but you'll have your photos forever!

We are going with a Candid Image as well. I have gotten a lot of great feedback from other brides (not from this site) I actually was given a bunch of brides email addresses that used the photographer I am using, and tthey all wrote back saying they had wonderful experiences.

your pictures are what you have for the rest of your life. IMO you should get a good photographer. It doesnt have to cost you an arm and a leg for it either. My photo/video pkg is >5k and they are great from what I have seen. Definetly check out these girls recommendations. Good luck.

what is everyones photographer charging (if you dont mind me asking) and what are they giving you for that price?
My photographer (havent signed yet going thursday) is charing 3800 for 90 pictures in a 11x18? album, 50 thank you cards, it think a 10x18 picture and some 8x10's, 5x7s. Now i def need a whole lot more thank you cards and the parent albums were NOT included in this price. I absolutely LOVE his work and hes the only one that really impressed me but my friend paid 5 grand for a similar package with parent albums and 125 thank you cards. Now my whole things is that i ahve to get 3 parent albums because my parents are divorced and they both need one and i need a hell of alot more thank you cards. Do you think i can play 'lets make a deal' with him?? Do photographers budge on stuff like that...i dont even know!!!!

True, I could get one photographer. I guess I can make exceptions here and there. It's tough though. I wish I could have tons of money so I can splurge on everything. Hmppphh!!
