Photography -- High Res Disc

Photography -- High Res Disc

So I met with two photographers so far. Both were equally priced but, photographer A's package better suited my needs (I have divorced parents so need 3 of everything) and more pics per album, etc. Photographer, B's package did not include everything we needed, but did included giving us a high res disc with all the pics so that we can make up additionals as needed. The other, which package was better, did not. They will not release the high res dics, will only give low res which cannot be reproduced.

I'm curious as to how many of your photographers are giving you the high res disc? Photographer A says no good studio will and Photographer B says it is more common practice today.

Is this common practice today or are we getting a better deal by getting the high res disc? How many of you are getting the high res disc with your package. And which photographer are you using?

in my opinion, getting the high res disc is totally worth it--that way, you can enlarge and duplicate anything you want, whenever you want, and it's so much cheaper than getting it done through a studio. i completely recommend getting it if you have the opportunity!

i have talked to 7 photographers and ALL said i can have the disk. (and thats all i want, no albums, etc.) Some are also including the proofs so they are printing off the disk they give me, 1 is charging $500 for the disk.. but all said yes. Seems pretty common to me

photographer A is full of it. many studios will give u high res discs, they may charge you an additional fee for it though. I would go with the photographer that gives you the disc. you dont want to have to go back to the photographer for overpriced enlargements each time u need some.

I won't sign unless I get a high res disc. That's just me though.

I am getting a high resolution disc, even received one for e-pics. I would definitely try to negotiate on this. I think its very important, if you want to make enlargements or do whatever with your pics youre going to need the disc.

I guess that photographer is doing this because if you want any enlargements you have to go through them. Its messed up bc its not that cheap for just 1 enlargement.

Even just sharing your pics online you'll want a high res disc.

I met with 3 photogs and all were giving me a high resolution disc. When a photographer does not want to give this to you it is b/c they want you to go to them for all your pics, so they make more money. Check out 12th Night photography and Right Angle Studios, both are great photogs and no BS!! Good Luck

Edited b/c I forgot to say FM me if you have any questions about the two photographers I mentioned.

we talked to 7 photogs before we decided. of them, 1 refused to give dvd of proofs at all not even lo res. so we did not go with him.

Patken made you wait either 6 mos or 1 yr before they released the dvd but they did give it. we didn't like the wait so kept looking.
of the others, I think 2 gave it to you with no conditions and the others either 'gave' it to you if you spent enough on an album or made you buy it.

Silverfox who we went with and are happy with was the easiest company for us to deal with. we got 10 hrs coverage, dvd and back in 2007 prints of the proofs (now they charge to print them - - but do unlimited photos because they are not obligated to print them all). we did not need to commit to buying an album but if we decided later we wanted one (which we did cause we love the pics) he freezes the price to when you sign the contract - - so we oredered in 2008 with 2006 prices. and he is willing to do quick touchup edits - - like eyeglass glare. all the other ones said no and were very iffy on what they would charge to do it too.

long way to answer your question but I use3d the dvd to put together a dvd slideshow with our first dance music of 300+ of the pics and am so happy with it every now and again I pop that sucker into the dvd and watch - - easier than the album actually. so you might want the opportunity to do something like that.

I also use photo software and did montage type pics that I gave to wedding party members. they seemed to like them. so with the dvd HI res you can do things like that if you or fh so desire.

I definitely say hi-res disc. Then you can print as many as you like, even make your own albums (from Snapfish, MyPublisher, etc) if you like to give to whoever wants them. One of my friends said if she knew she had that option she definitely would have done it that way.

My package with Photography in Style includes the high res CD.

Its totally common these days for MOST photographers to give hi-res discs with the images on it. People want their pictures and SHOULD have the rights to them-hence why they give them out.

here it is for you-if youget the disc with the hi res images-you can make your OWN parent albums on shutterfly, kodakgallery, blurb or picaboo So if you prefer the photographer who did include the hi res disc but not the albums-you can do it yourself!

I used Right Angle and will get a disc-its included in my package

I checked about six photographers and all but one didn't give a high res disc. Needless to say that one photographer was not the one we chose.

High res disc is very important.

agree with some of the other posters. Most photographers will give you the disk these days. For me, I didn't look or give consideration to anyone that wouldn't give me a disk of the photos. You can absolutely find photographers out there though that will give you a disk, your own album and then 3 parent albums. I had that option with mine and I HIGHLY recommend her:

I've checked with two and both offer a High Res Disc. I won't book with someone if I can't get that.

IMO, the studios wont give you the High res pics on disks bc they want you to print solely with them, making them more money. I think it's disgusting.

I figured out what I wanted out of my pics and when I want to interview each studio I asked only about the things I wanted. The studio with the best quality and price won (in my case, duet)

Who are the photographers you were looking at? Did you use any of the Royalton vendors (aside from flowers of course)?

Re: Photography -- High Res Disc

YES!!! You want the disc. The one that won't give it to you b/c they lose money if they do. We have the same situation need 3 of everything dur to FHs divorced parents. We are going to get photographer that will give us High Res Disc and make our own albums for the parents they cost $500 each I think through photographers but I think we can make them for under $100. You print your own copies of pics for cheap and then put them in an album. Lenox has beautiful albums for about $40 that you can then just slide the pics in
