There's nothing like reality smacking you in the face! I was under the fanciful impression that I could get a top notch portrait and photojournalistic photographer and a good package deal for $3,000...oh my, was I wrong! It looks like a decent package and photographer will actually run me more like $4-5k...Lord help me. There goes my photography budget! (Already blew my music budget!) *Sigh*
Am I right in my estimates here? $4-$5k for amazing work? (Including at least a bridal album. I'll worry about parent albums later I guess. I need 3 of em...) Now I have to try to convince FH that this is simply what a great photographer costs...he was thinking more like $2k.
AHHHHHH!!!!
Thank you for letting me vent!

Re: Photography Prices - Gulp...
The photographer i had picked was definitely in the ballpark of less than $2k (traditional & non-traditional photos, color & black/white). I get to keep all the proofs & negatives. The only thing is he charges extra to do the album. But I thought about it and I would prefer to make my own album. You can checkout their website
www.twelfthnightphoto.com
Good luck looking and I am sure you will find someone within your budget.

Yep! I realized that too just the other day being on here!! I was originally planning on spending $3K also but so all the work I've seen that I like is well above that.

I am paying about $2500. Try VIP. I think they have packages that start at $2K maybe less. I think there are always 2 photographers on the day. They are a vendor on this site.

Re: Photography Prices - Gulp...
Thank you ladies for all of your help and support!
Here is my original list of photographers to check out (which I will probably be adding to thanks to your kind suggestions):
1) Something in Blue 2) Imagine Studios 3) Mark Kauffman 4) Verdi 5) Duet
I started making my calls today and discovered that a bunch of my top picks would cost me $4-5k for a decent package. I didn't get quotes from Duet yet, (I think that they may be the most affordable one on my list!) but have an appointment set up with them later this week.
Let's hope I fall in love with the most affordable one!
(FH is now saying that we should hire the best photographer from CT or PA and pay for them to come here for our wedding, b/c it would probably be cheaper! Wouldn't it be sad if that's true?)

Re: Photography Prices - Gulp...
I'm using Ed Collins Photography - he is photojournalistic & other brides on this site have used & loved his work. Do a search. We're paying $2700 his most expensive package, which a full day shoot, 2 albums & photographers among other things.
ETS - Something in Blue was my 2nd choice only cuz they were more expensive I didn't use them! :)

Re: Photography Prices - Gulp...
Another vote for Duet. We just booked them for our wedding next July and are so excited! We visited a few different photography studios and picked Duet for 3 main reasons: 1) we fell in love with their style which is very moden. They do a lot of photojournalistic/candid work plus posed pictures. Their album was different than anything I've ever seen and I feel like it is more of a story book than a picture book; 2) we didn't feel like they were trying to take advantage of us with the price. Some people really try to get you for everything 'different' or 'extra' that you want including adding more pictures afterwards, doing sepia or adding color to B&W pictures, etc. Duet does all of that as a standard. Plus, they were really flexible with their packages. and 3) their prices are amazing- especially for the work that they do! We are paying less than 4k for photos (2 photographers with 2 cameras each), DVD, our album, 2 parent albums, a bunch of enlargements & wallets, video on DVD plus 2 DVD's for our parents. Can't beat that!
Honestly, I originally felt more comfortable with a studio that people I know have used or that has been around forever but I found myself liking Duet so much that it didn't matter!
FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Photography Prices - Gulp...
Photographers are artists. They put a lot of work into what they do, and have a lot of equipment and overhead. If I was them, I would be charging the same thing!
I am not happy to spend over $5,000 on photographs, but at the same, They do put alot into it, especially when they are the ones developing them. Some of the less expensive photographers send them out.
Just my opinion.

I am using Patken and paying under 3k for my photo's. I am getting a lot of stuff too. I have my album, 2 parent albums, a 20x20, an 11x14, 8x10's and a few other stuff as well.
Definatly check out Patken. Tell them your budget and they will customize a package for you

Try the smaller studios, they usually have better prices.
