I have booked my RH, I am very close to booking my DJ, so now I need a photographer.
Who do you guys recommend?
Thomas Paul is already booked on my date. I am also hoping to not spend too much money (Is $2,000 - $3,000 a reasonable expectation?), I don't feel like I need anything extravagent, but I definitely want someone good and reliable.
I am most afraid of which photographer to book b/c I hear the most horror stories with them.
TIA

Re: Photography recommendations?
My photog is Kenny Pang. If you didn't use a 2nd photog or get e-pics you could be near $3,000, but that wouldn't even include albums. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for!

I guess I don't really know what I am looking for. I don't know what you really get with photographers. I know all about RHs and DJs, but what product and services would I be getting for $3000 with Kenny Pang?

You have to check out Gary with Leli Photography! I love him!!! I'm using him for photo and video. He shoots traditional and photojournalistic. His work is amazing! Check out his website atLeli Photography. When my FH and I met with him and looked at his albums we knew that we wanted Gary to shoot our wedding. We also liked Gary because he was really easy going, no hard sell. I'm taking my E-pics this Monday I'll post them as soon as I get them back. I can't wait! He has packages starting at $3,000 including album, proofs on CD/DVD and full day coverage. Good luck with your planning. If you have any questions feel free to FM me!

She said TP was booked on her day.
If you cant get Tom (I used him too) I would say talk to Mariann at Blue Daisy. She did my Boudoir shots and was amazing to work with. If I didnt use TP she would be my next choice.

Well some photographers will give you packages which include the cost of albums and enlargements, etc. Other photographers give you packages which only cover the cost of their services and let you add albums ala carte.
Kenny Pang would be more of the second option. Like Angelica Glass or Blue Daisy, the main selling point for these independent photographers is their style and their talent. This is not to say other photographers are not talented, it's just that these photographers really pride themselves on their photojournalistic style and that is essentially what you are paying for. Other photographers pride themselves on how MUCH they can give you - tons of albums, tons of proofs in a proof book, etc.
My package with Kenny Pang is including 10 hours of coverage, an engagement shoot, a second photographer, an online photo gallery, the hi-res, photoshopped, color corrected images as .JPEGs on CD, and a proof album with several hundred proofs. A year later I'll get 1,000 additional proofs, too. So basically, my package doesn't include any albums, we would have to purchase them ala carte. We will probably use a little money from our wedding gifts to buy a real album for ourselves, and use mypublisher to make parent albums. Since we'll have all the images on disk, we'll also make our enlargements, etc. on our own at a regular photo place.
ETA: So to wrap up my babbling (lol) - decide if you are really set on having a particular style or if you're really set on having a lot of albums and other stuff. I was absolutely dead set on having KP's type of style, so I didn't care that the albums were extra. You might care more about making sure to get enough albums than you do about style. It's a personal preference thing!

Re: Photography recommendations?
Even though I went with Thomas Paul I would say Silver Fox. You can definitly get pics and album under 3000 because everything is a la cart. Their work is great.

Re: Photography recommendations?
Gray Studios have been sooooo helpful and nice! My friend used them for her wedding. I was in the bridal party, and Prosper was sooooo great that I am going to use them for my wedding! He was polite professional and took GREAT pictures! I have been in other bridal parties where the photographer was very intrusive and obnoxious. I can guarantee that will not be the case with Prosper at Gray Studious in Floral Park.

We used Windau Photography...haven't gotten back our proofs yet but I can tell you that he was fun to work with and we had so many guests come up to us and mention how hard he had worked that day and that he definitely did his job plus some that day!
