Photography Woes

Photography Woes

I am trying to decide on a photographer and I cannot make up my mind. So far, I have seen the following people

Visual Concepts - whom I love, but my bank account doesn't

Park Ave Studios - But I felt somewhat pressured and rushed and that didn't sit well with me

Daniel Goodrich - sweet but not exactly what I was looking for in pictures - too photojournalist for my taste

Soon to meet with TimeXposures, Joel Greenberg (in the city) and Vivid Video and Photography

Can anyone help me out? I'm looking for pictures I LOVE, two photographers, an album, two parent albums, owning the pics, and videography all for under 6K - am I looking for something I won't be able to achieve?

I know how you feel. We have been to a few . I didn't like the people who would say this is our package, think it over for five minutes and then I will be back with the contract for you to sign. Very pushy!

Then we saw someone who had excellent prices but we didn't care for the pictures. They were too dark or not great quality.

Here are two people we really liked:

Golden Moments does both video and photography. They are priced in the same range as everyone else. They were very nice and not pushy at all. I loved their videos. We're most likely going with them for video. We are going to meet with them again next week.

For photography we are going with John from Sharpshooter photography. He was recommended to me by a friend I work with. His prices were very comparable (lower actually than the others) and his pictures were great. He works for a studio but does his own work from his home on the side. His number is 631 738 7260. Give him a call and set up an appointment. You never know. He also does videography. There are actually two reviews about him on LI Weddings.

Good Luck!

I never heard of those photgraphers..I booked with Sherwood Triat.
Does your RH reccommend any photographers?

Re: Photography Woes

Park Ave and Visual Concepts are recommended by my RH - The Bourne Mansion. My flower lady recommended Daniel - a Newsday photojournalist who does some weddings on the side. The wedding coordinator from Village Bridal - where we are doing our limos out of - and they are AWESOME by the way - recommended Vivid. A friend from work recommended Joel, he's in the city. Someone at work also recommended TimeXposures, who also once worked for Park Ave. So, that's my long story about how I got to this conglomerate of photogs.

Ok I am very picky about photography and spent countless hours searching for the RIGHT one.

I booked Katie Lyman...she is out of brooklyn and is awesome and so down to earth. Her work is phenomenal...you can see some samples on her website www.katielyman.com but email her if you want to see some slideshows. She is in your price range.

Also I met with Studio Copobianco and B. Matthews and both were a no for many reasons (FM me for details). Patken was also a big no for me.

Hope I helped!!!!

Marcophotoinc.com is the photographer i am going with. The woman i work for , her son is dating his daugther so i kind of got a bit of a discount. But he is definitely under 6k and takes beautiful photos. That is just my input, i see that people on this board are set with certain photographers already, but this is just my 2 cents.

I am curious why you didn't like Patken? I am wondering if it is the same reasons I didn't like them either..... FM me!!!

I used George from Right Angle, I didnt get video thru him but I know he does have the option to add video and come in under 6k. I also have 2 photographers, all my proofs (paper and CD) we only chose to have one album (ours) but you should take a look at him. He has been absolutely a pleasure to work with the entire time.

I'd look into Glenmar and Duet. We're seriously considering Glenmar right now... and they definitely had a more reasonable package.

They give you prints of all proofs. Is that good enough? Is that what you meant by 'owning' the pictures? Thanks!

Good luck.

Prints of the proofs is supposedly not the same. I'm not exactly sure what is the difference, but my friend that used to do wedding photography said it was very important that they are your prints so that you can get copies of things and not have to go through the photographer.

Here is the difference....if you own your proofs your images will not be watermarked...meaning the photographers studio name will not be embedded in your paper proofs or on your CD. You can print them from your own computer, or bring the CD to CVS and have them printed at will.

BUT...if you receive paper prints and prints on a CD not watermarked you may not necessarily own the rights but you are still able to print off pictures without going thru your photographer.

Technically all owning the images means is that the photographer cannot use them for commercial or ads. And you not owning them just means that you cannot use them for commercial or ads either. I have printed out my pictures...i dont own the rights my photographer does-but I always give him credit for my pictures when anyone asks.

Owning the rights is important but it really isnt that important. 99% of photographers keep their rights to your photos for their websites and for other customers to see, it is VERY rare that a photographer will give this to you without there being some kind of fee or waiting period.

Nope, we were looking for the same thing. We went with Duval in Wantagh, and they've been great so far!
