I am trying to decide on a photographer and I cannot make up my mind. So far, I have seen the following people
Visual Concepts - whom I love, but my bank account doesn't
Park Ave Studios - But I felt somewhat pressured and rushed and that didn't sit well with me
Daniel Goodrich - sweet but not exactly what I was looking for in pictures - too photojournalist for my taste
Soon to meet with TimeXposures, Joel Greenberg (in the city) and Vivid Video and Photography
Can anyone help me out? I'm looking for pictures I LOVE, two photographers, an album, two parent albums, owning the pics, and videography all for under 6K - am I looking for something I won't be able to achieve?

Re: Photography Woes
Look into Laura Ryan-AMAZING photos. I believe she is usually a sole photographer but can work with a second if requested. Check out her site. She is doing our Day After pics on May 3rd and my B-pics THIS WEEKEND WOO HOO lol. She is VERY reasonable price wise. definetly check her out.
I would recommend my photographer, Artisan Photo Group, to you. Everything you mentioned in your post is what Artisan offers. I received all of my proofs, had 2 photographers, bridal album, 2 parent albums, plus several enlargements all for a great price. I didn't opt for a videographer, but they offer this service and I am sure if you make an appointment with them, you won't be disappointed :) The price is definitely one that your bank account will like!
The difference between Artisan and the other photographers that I met is the warm, familiar feeling you get when you meet Chuck and Linda, the office manager.
Here are my proofs if you're interested in checking out their work Password: Rosselli Proofs
Good luck with your search! Gina

Re: Photography Woes
Check out Cassarino Studios and Lawrence Photography
I actually found that going with separate photographer and videographer gave me more flexibility in terms of the package, price, and quality of work (the latter was most important of all!) I went with Photography by Christos and Bellarino Video because each specialize in what they do and I get to know each one personally rather than not meeting the videographer until the church ceremony.
This is, of course, my own personal preference.

Duet and ADA are highly recommended to me. My sis and best friend had ADA and I was happy working with them as part of the bridal party.

Re: Photography Woes
I booked with The Velvet Studio. I felt very comfortable with Bob, the owner. He did not pressure me to book and he definitely made me feel really confident that my pictures will come out amazing. I got a really great deal with 2 photographers. FM me if you want details. Good Luck!

Definitely check out Marco Photography. That's who I'm using. I checked out a bunch and that was the only one I felt comfortable with. Also, the prices are reasonable.

Prints of the proofs is supposedly not the same. I'm not exactly sure what is the difference, but my friend that used to do wedding photography said it was very important that they are your prints so that you can get copies of things and not have to go through the photographer.
Here is the difference....if you own your proofs your images will not be watermarked...meaning the photographers studio name will not be embedded in your paper proofs or on your CD. You can print them from your own computer, or bring the CD to CVS and have them printed at will.
BUT...if you receive paper prints and prints on a CD not watermarked you may not necessarily own the rights but you are still able to print off pictures without going thru your photographer.
Technically all owning the images means is that the photographer cannot use them for commercial or ads. And you not owning them just means that you cannot use them for commercial or ads either. I have printed out my pictures...i dont own the rights my photographer does-but I always give him credit for my pictures when anyone asks.
Owning the rights is important but it really isnt that important. 99% of photographers keep their rights to your photos for their websites and for other customers to see, it is VERY rare that a photographer will give this to you without there being some kind of fee or waiting period.
Duet is giving me the pics on CDs and printed proofs, no watermarks on anything - I am printing them myself and making my own books. I actually found that most of the places I looked at do not do watermarks.

Correct, but that doesnt mean you own the rights to your photos, it just means they are allowing you to print and use the photos to your liking.

Re: Photography Woes
Update: Meet with TimeXposures and Joel Greenberg. Loved Joel, his price was a little out of my budget, but we worked it to be closer to what I was looking for. My FH is more partial to TimeXposures. We're very torn. I wish decisions were easier. But, I am pretty sure the decision is just going to be between these two.

Re: Photography Woes
I met with 12 photog's before making the decision, the only one out of your list I met with was Time Xposures. I booked w/ Duet- had Jay's team, and he was amazing!! check out my album of pro pics & e-pics. They meet your criteria, and were definitely under 6K. good luck!! I stressed out more picking a photographer than I did my RH! go with your gut, and the photographer that shows you pics that wow you (and has the right price of course!

We booked Infinite Images and absolutely love them. Their work is beautiful, their prices are in your budget, and they are great people. They also do videography.
I booked with them too... they are great

I used George from Right Angle, I didnt get video thru him but I know he does have the option to add video and come in under 6k. I also have 2 photographers, all my proofs (paper and CD) we only chose to have one album (ours) but you should take a look at him. He has been absolutely a pleasure to work with the entire time.
I'm also using George from Right Angle - including video, should be in your price range. He will also customize a 'package' to your needs.

Re: Photography Woes
I know exactly how you feel.. I was your position 2 days ago. I had been agonizing over photography for over a month.
I finally made my decision and went with Artisan. Chuck is a very talented photographer and it was important to me to meet with my photographer and click. I didnt want to go through a rep and then be matched up with a photographer. That seems impersonal to me. Aritsan really makes you feel at home, every time I went there I was there for at least an hour. Everything I asked for was available and after shopping around to various photographers, I realized that I was getting more for my money.
The style of pictures is traditional, with a touch of something different. Chuck takes average shots and makes then fresh, just by positioning people differently. He is very creative and talented and patient!!! Patience is such abig deal for me!! I am having 7 little ones in bridal party! He also does excellent photjournalism work. I think Artisan is the perfect blend of traditional and photjournalistic pictures.
The price is in your range and what you are asking for is reasonable. Definatley give Chuck a call 516-938-4430. You won't be disappointed!

Re: Photography Woes
See for me one of us is all about TimeXposures - he's extremely friendly and personable and would really mesh well with our BP. THe other is completely in love with and confident about Joel's photography. One other thing I have been pondering, the price I was quoted and can afford with Joel is without thank yous. Is it possible that we make our own?
