Ok ladies, in all my excitement of getting a date for the RH and now getting the church nearly in order. I'm now BUGGING OUT because i'm realizing ....oooohhhhh boy, we're not going to get any pictures with the sun up??? we're October of '08 on a friday. i really really really don't want to do the 'see each other before the wedding to take photos' thing. i want to hold on to that moment where you first see each other walking down the aisle. however, if we do a 5pm mass ....we're S.O.L part of the reason i love the date is we should have great timing with leaves and it will be beautiful! does anyone have insight as too how much photographers can do in the night time? anyone seen them bring fancy lighting set ups? i guess our other option is to have a 3pm service - with 3 hours in between for photos etc...but i know that for our guests that is a real pain!!! and we'll have fewer people make the actual mass because it is on a friday any insight from friday fall brides??? boy oh boy i'm doing a lot of this lately!

I have the same problem. Your RH or photographer should have the time the sun will set. Check the chart. Are you having a church mass? Or a ceremony at the RH? You could probably do the ceremony around 4:00, then take pics for about an hour....as the sun is setting....

I'd love to do 4pm, but i was just told by the church that for fridays they do 11, 1, 3 and 5 thats it! 4 would be perfect, ideally 4:30 for the old wives tale about the clock. hmmm anyone negotiated start time for the mass?

Yeah sorry. I don't know what you can do besides find another church with different hours. FH and I are doing pictures before the church. We are seeing eachothe rbefore so it's not a problem for us. Good luck.

I have the same problem. My ceremony at the RH is at 530pm. My FH was dead set against seeing me before hand until I explained that we would have to drag everyone out of the CH to take pictures and it's inconveniencing blahblahblah...I was pretty convincing I guess (it helped that the photographer agreed) because he agreed to take pictures before. I really wanted some daylight and sunset pictures, but that's my personal choice. I've seen gorgeous night pictures though, so if you have your heart set on not seeing each other, speak with your photographer, they'll find a way to make you happy.

Re: photos in the dark??? oh no
I had this SAME problem ... so I decided to get married on a Sat. in October and have a day wedding instead of a Friday night.
That doesn't help you I guess ... But my suggestion would be to do pictures before the ceremony. I know you don't to see your FH and I didn't either, but even with my wedding being at 1pm we are doing pics before because we both want to be at the entire cocktail hour (and there is no time in between ceremony and cocktail hour because it's all at the RH). I know you wanted that moment - but you can still have a special moment, when he first sees you. Your photographer should have great ideas.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: photos in the dark??? oh no
i'd think about doing your pics beforehand.....i DID NOT want to see FH before the ceremony - BUT - I also want really great pictures......my photographer - Angelica Glass, was totally honest with me and told me that she would have more time which = better pictures if we took them before the ceremony. she also promised that she would capture the first moment he saw me. she showed us a few pictures of the bride and groom seeing eachother for the first time and let me tell you - these pics were beautiful and FH's were much more emotional when it was just the two of them and the photographer......FH was totally okay with the idea - he actually likes it better this way......so i ended up changing my mind as well - so we are doing pictures before the ceremony.....it also works out to our benefit because we can greet our guests during the CH - and maybe even get a chance to eat some of the food!! good luck whatever you decide!!

Re: photos in the dark??? oh no
honestly i would consider pics beforehand or having the ceremony at 3 pm. trust me -- if you want great daytime pics -- you should go for the earlier start time. even at 5 pm on a friday, ppl will probably still have to take either half a day or the entire day off to get to your wedding on time. (since most ppl work 9-5 as it is) so having at 5pm start time doesn't really guarantee that you will have alot of ppl there for the mass.
if you do it at 3 pm -- ppl can take a half day, come to the church, see you married, and then go home and get ready for the reception. having a 3 hour gap isn't bad at all--its very common.
i'd rather have great fall foliage pics then a full church!

I would go with the 3pm time. This way you can stick your guns about not seeing each other before the church and still have daylight. Like the other post said, the people that are going to be there are going to be there, no matter what time it is. I had a hard time with this as well bc my wedding is a Thursday (day before 4th of July) and the only time my church had was 2:30 or 5:30. I refuse to see each other before, so we went with 2:30. Most people are going to take off that day or leave work anyway. And if they don't... they are not that important

We're going through a similar situation. We'll have time after the cermony with daylight but I feel like we'll have to move quick. THe sun sets at 5:50 on our day. My photographer said she can shoot in dusk/dark but they won't be the crisp, bright pics I love so much from her.

I feel your pain, I am getting married Oct 10, 2008 and I was worried about the light and having my pictures without any. We are having a 5:30 ceremony and will have 1/2 of sunlight for pics! We are doing CH and RH at the same place so it makes it a little easier. We are with you though, we don't want to see each other before the wedding at all, something we've both decided on I feel like it will take something away, at least for me. I think there have been some beautifuly done weddings in the evenings and the pics have come out gorgeous and romantic! Candlelight evening ceremonies are gorgeous too...I am also getting married on a Friday so I hear your pain.

I have the same problem. My church starts at 330pm however in on my date in november the sun sets at 4:43pm. That leaves me with ummmmmmmmm..NO TIME to get pictures taken in daylight. I have yet to figure out what i'm going to do. My reception starts at 730..thats 4 hrs of time in between. At first I cared about what people are going to do in between, now I just dont care b/c I'm having picture troubles lol

Also remember girls that the clocks aren't set back now until november...i'm doing a 2:30 church so i get a lil of everything
I am in the same boat I am a Friday night and in Jan 09. I could care less about a ton of day pics, but Steve really wants them. So we are trying to work it out, I would like to research indoor places to take pics that is unique, and someone made a good point 90% of your pics are done indoors. So just a few with light is fine with me.

she showed us a few pictures of the bride and groom seeing eachother for the first time and let me tell you - these pics were beautiful and FH's were much more emotional when it was just the two of them and the photographer......
When I was having this concern, my sister told me that she actually wished she had taken photos before the ceremony with her FH. She said that while they were up on the alter, there were so many things she wanted to say to her FH that she couldn't, because they were on the alter :) I am glad we decided to do photos before the ceremony. It gets them out of the way too - well the posed ones anyhow - and then you can just enjoy your day!

I went with the last option because I really didnt want to see my hubby before the ceremony. My mass started at 2 and there were 4 hours in between the church and reception. We had our close friends and family attend the service and since I also got married on a Friday (In November!) I understood if people couldn't make it to the ceremony. I took pics at OWG in between and couldn't have been happier with how things turned out.
