photos in the dark??? oh no

Original post by colleen1117

Ok ladies, in all my excitement of getting a date for the RH and now getting the church nearly in order. I'm now BUGGING OUT because i'm realizing ....oooohhhhh boy, we're not going to get any pictures with the sun up???
we're October of '08 on a friday. i really really really don't want to do the 'see each other before the wedding to take photos' thing. i want to hold on to that moment where you first see each other walking down the aisle. however, if we do a 5pm mass ....we're S.O.L
part of the reason i love the date is we should have great timing with leaves and it will be beautiful! does anyone have insight as too how much photographers can do in the night time? anyone seen them bring fancy lighting set ups?
i guess our other option is to have a 3pm service - with 3 hours in between for photos etc...but i know that for our guests that is a real pain!!! and we'll have fewer people make the actual mass because it is on a friday any insight from friday fall brides???
boy oh boy i'm doing a lot of this lately!

I think you may be able to get some sun setting shots. We are taking our pics before the ceremony just to avoid worrying about the sun and that way we can get them over with and enjoy the whole wedding...but if you don't want to do that I still think you will get some good shots. This year pay attention to when it starts getting dark so you know how much time you have....and don't be late to the ceremony.

I think that if you do miss the sun, you can still take some great shots of you and your BM's and family in the day time and then just do the rest after.

colleen, i have a similar stuation. i am getting married in April and bith the ceremony and dinner will be at the RH. the ceremony starts at 8p and sunset is at 7:57p. i do not and will not see FH b4. My photographer suggested that I take pics with my girls and mom b4 and then FH will take pics with his guys b4 (in the daylight). our pics together will be night pics. this is another option for you. hope this helps. here is the info for checking sun and moon data:

Hey girls, I'm sharing the same issue. My ceremony is more than likely going to be at 7:00pm outside in the middle of september. I don't mind having night pictures but I just wanted to see how they look. I can always find a site for earlier in the day and take daylight pics, which i plan on doing. But I also want some nice nighttime ones. I am sooooo confused!!!!!!

I totally had the same problem a month ago. I went on the farmer's almanac and looked up the sunset for 10-11-08 and it's actually gonna be an hour earlier with the change in daylight savings time next year. I have a 1pm ceremony and a 5:30 cocktail hour but the sites are about 45 minutes away from eachother. I'm afraid I'm gonna be racing with the sun. So far tho, anyone I talk to says that it should be fine and to just take all ur outside pics first. The place I'm having my reception makes for beautiful indoor pictures too I have heard. The only other option would be to meet before the ceremony and take pics but I have always said that I want the first time that my FH and I see eachother to be at the church.

By the way, I have also heard that most people don't mind early weddings on Fridays b/c it gives them a good excuse to miss work. And as far as the in between time, it really shouldn't be too much of a pain if most people are not from out of town. For my uncle's wedding, the church and reception were right near each other with 2 hours in between. None of us wanted to go home and then go back, so we organized a big group of us to go and grab a drink and hang out for a bit.

i have the same problem too, but you will be able to get amazing sunset shots, and really romantic nighttime shots with the lighting that your photographer will use. At first I was freaking out too though. I'd consider moving your church time up to 3 and then you should have almost 2 full hours of daylight after the ceremony is over. Plus, it's not like it gets pitch black the moment the sun sets, you'll still have at least like 15 minutes after the 'official sunset time.'

Don't stress over it. Just think how pretty your fall wedding will be!
