Phyl, how did your interview w/the Nanny go??

Just wondering if you liked her, and if you have found a solution to your childcare needs!

went well...

she arrived on time, was well dressed and was well spoken. all good for a first impression.l She was also very observant of J...who I first was holding when she walked in ...and later had placed in a bouncer. she noticed right away when J was fussing and didnt care for where she was.

She was also very direct...knew what she was talking about...has been doing this for 13 years. only avail part time...works for someone who is aobut 15 min away- 2days.wk- who has 2 buys 8 and 10. Has been working for the family since the 8 yr old came home from the hospital.

we did tell her that come July we may be enrolling our daughter at the local JCC. That it was not def..only if there was an opening...and how she felt about it. She is looking for something mopre permanent. I told her I was not completely sold on the JCC and appreciated one on one care esp for someone so young.

We checked out her references- which were great. The guy w/ the 8 yr old and 10 yr old is on the the city counsel of Long Beach and owns a pool biz. Says if he had one million $$ on the table, he would not hesitate to leave it there. She is a member of their family and has never did anything to be repremanded over.

so, at this point Icalled her at home but there is no answerring machine. This is her day at work at that guy's home so I will need to wait until she gets home to see if she will accept the postiion.

If not, then we checked out another daycare ctr the next town over. They just started an infant prg in June. Seems like an afterthought. no cribs in the rm. They had an 8 month old napping in a bouncer which they then placed in a playpen. my guess is that is where J would be napping as well. She will b the youngest one there...in a rm that you stay in until you are 17 months old. Seems like a big spectrum to hold in one rm...with 2 teachers. Total kids in the room was about 8 I believe. Seems more like babysitting than daycare. The director went over briefly a routine for the rm but said J was very young and that she would not be able to particpate in alot of the activities ( puzzles, small motor skills, etc. but would listen to music) Didnt really avocate that much for her prg and say we do colors, we sing, we listen to music, we go outside when it is good weather and name the objects outside, etc....like JCC did.
JCC rm held only 6 infants...and you graduate at onre yr old to the next room.

Dunno...I guess wait and see....

any words of guidance (or comfort? )

Re: went well...

I would not trust the other daycare center. I think State law requires cribs. Also, honestly sounds like the baby would be put in a bouncer or swing all day long and not paid much attention to unless she is crying. I think the nanny sounds great. Maybe tell her that if things go well you will keep the baby with her.

I think the nanny sounds terrific. I would be much more comfortable with my little one getting one on one care than being one in a 5:1:1 (5 children, 1 teacher, 1 aide) ratio (or whatever the state law is today).
Patrick and I have already decided we want a full time nanny, possibly someone live-in, so I am reading your experiences carefully! You seem so well organized and well prepared for choosing a caregiver. I'm taking notes and learning from you.

Phyl--
If you only need her until July, can I have her afterwards! I need someone to start in July for a permanent position--part or full time!

misha

hi misha- wiI cannot commit to anything right now- sorry! I dont know how it is going to work out with her...and actually with US. Iif we decide that we really should not wait and go ahead with JCC I will post it here. And we can see at that point if you need her. DO you live in Long Beach or thereabouts? She wont travel much farther .,....
