What's your thoughts on doing pictures with FH and the bridal party before the ceremony??? I'm a bit traditional so Im not sure about this idea but being that I'm getting married at the RH and then the ceremony goes right into cocktail hour I would like to not miss most of the CH taking pictures. I heard from my banquet manager that many ppl take pics now before the ceremony so they don't have to miss any part of their wedding. Any thoughts?

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
We too are getting married at the RH, and the ceremony ends and CH begins immediately after. We are doing pics before. We really want to be able to get to at least half of our CH. We figure we will do some photos after, since we will be just married! But only about 15 minutes or so. Our RH sets up a CH spread in the bridal suite and kind of forces you to take a 10 minute breather alone, together after the ceremony before you go into the CH, because you will be talking to people and not able to eat, which I think is nice. We plan on attending the last half hour or so of the CH then making our grand entrance into the reception. I think no matter what your first reveal, when you first see each other is going to be amazing, and nothing can change it! Remember, in Judaism brides and grooms see each other to sign the Ketubah before the ceremony, and that's been going on for a long time without bad luck! You have to do what works for you and your FH, and I guess the timeline of your events that day. Also in my case my grandma is 97 and will not be able to get to the RH at 5 for photos, then the ceremony, CH etc. it's too much for her. She will come at 7 with the guests, and some of the after-ceremony must-takes will be with her. Good luck!!

We will be taking pictures before the ceremony. I really wanted to do this because we too are getting married at the RH and I don't want to miss the CH. Our photographer will still do a reveal so it'll still be a special moment when we see each other for the first time.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
My FH and I are taking pics before the ceremony. What is it with this everyone thinks its not 'traditional to see each other before the ceremony'. A Tradition can be something that you start. New traditions can always be made. The bad luck thing is superstition. My only problem that I had at first was that it would not be a suprise for my FH to see me. However the photographer explain that they do set up a reveal for the first time you guys will actually see each other on the day of and it will be documented both on video and photo. So that ended my worries there. It will be a suprise because we are not getting ready together and at that moment when he first sees me he will be like 'wow', 'Oh my God' and the photographer/videographer will catch this personal moment of the two of you. Personally I think this makes the first time he sees you on your wedding day more special because it will just be the two of you and that moment and feelings will be geniuine. Its more personal than him seeing you for the first time along with the whole crowd at your ceremony. But to answer your question many people do it. I am just tired of so many people talking about tradition when it comes to this because new traditions start every day. It is what you make it. Sorry for the rambling...lol.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
We are also getting married at the RH. We doing pics before the ceremony for 2 reasons. the first reason is that we dont want to miss half our wedding doing pics and the second one is we think we will be too emotional during the ceremony if we dont see each other prior. Especially FH. Its soooooooo funny--he is one of these guys that you would never imagine crying (he never does in public) but he gets very emotional sometimes when its just us. We are also doing 'the big reveal'---so it definitely be special

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
One of my friends who recently got married, opted to NOT take pictures before the ceremony. Her ceremony was 6pm and went right into the reception. She missed her entire cocktail hour.
She was really against seeing her DH before everything, but looking back now she said she wishes she got all of those pics done before the reception.
So I say do it before.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
You have to do what you're comfortable with. A lot of us on here are taking our pictures and seeing each other before the ceremony. If you feel like it's going to bring you bad luck, or you have been dreaming of the moment you walk up the aisle and stare into FH's eyes for the first time in your dress, then maybe it's not for you.
We are definitely seeing each other beforehand. We're still debating whether he's going to be in the same room as us when we're getting ready. lol
To me, the moment I walk down the aisle is going to be incredible because of the friends and family we'll be sharing that moment with. In front of all the people who matter most to us (well, most... some are out of town that weekend) we will be joined together for the rest of our lives. I'm so excited!!!
Think about it more over the next two years until your weddding date and figure out what matters most to you, and your timeline for that day will all fall into place. You have plenty of time to decide.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
I would do it if it meant not being able to be at the CH. In the jewish religion the bride and groom see each other before the sign the ketubah so it can't be that unlucky!

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
i understand wanting to be traditional. it is a little bit of a different feeling seeing FH for the first time when you walk down the aisle.
With that said, DH and i took our pictures before. There was still all the build up and anticipation to see each other before we took pictures. our photographer set up a moment, there are pictures of both of our faces before we saw each other at that time and he got such wonderful expressions on both of us. I love those pictures. It also allows you to enjoy your wedding. we were able to enjoy the majority of our CH and all of our reception, with the exception of about 15 where he took us outside for some nighttime shots.
Getting married at the RH makes taking pictures a little more difficult, so i would recommend taking pictures before. You are also much more relaxed throughout the day and walking down the aisle then you would be if you hadn't seen each other!

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
A LOT of brides do this now. I'm not doing it; I'm pretty traditional so I would like the first time FH sees me to be when I'm walking down the aisle. But there is nothing wrong with taking pictures before the ceremony.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
When I first started planning the wedding - I was VERY traditional. I didn't want pics before the ceremony. As I got into it, and look at it now, I've mixed both tradtional and modern into the mix. We're doing pics before the ceremony - it makes the most sense for everyone. Just make the first meeting special, that's what we're doing.

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
You can always take all the family/bp pics before the wedding and save the together pics for after.
Btw, the purpose of the CH is to entertain your guests while you are taking pictures.
If you choose to see each other before (we are), as pp said, your photog can set it up so it's a very intimate moment. Personally, I like the idea of sharing that moment with my FI instead of being 'on display' in front of everyone.
Ultimately, it's your choice, but there are lots of options!

Re: Pics before the Ceremony?
How important is it to you that you are able to go to your own CH? That's pretty much what it boils down to...we did our pics before the ceremony and I have no regrets (I am traditional also, I had misgivings about this too) Your photog will capture the moment you and FH see each other on your wedding day for the first time so don't worry that you won't get the moments lol. Also if you are getting married at the RH, one hour during CH after the ceremony won't be a lot of time to take pics...we took pics before our ceremony for about 1 1/2 hours and most ppl take up to 2 hours. So it might take longer or you might feel rushed...might be better to get them out of the way and then you can enjoy your day from the ceremony on and not miss the CH also JMO

thanks so much everyone...makes me feel a lot better that so many people did or are planning to do this. The more i think of it, it is a good idea...i want to enjoy the day as much as possible and not taking pics the whole time. Thank you all!!
