Pics of reception sites? I need help please.
I thought looking at reception sites was going to be loads of fun, but honestly, I am feeling quite overwhelmed and I''ve only looked at 4 places. I''ve checked websites trying to find some pictures of different locations, but I feel the pictures do them no justice. So far I have been to John Anthony''s on the Water, The Watermill, Westbury Manor and The Hamlet in Commack. I loved the Watermill but I think the smaller room will be too small for 170 guests which is what I think I will have. I don''t know where else to go, some places don''t look so nice on the websites, but maybe some of your have better suggestions. For those of you who have already had your wedding or have some pictures of other reception sites, could you possibly email me some pictures and some suggestions of some outstanding reception sites? My email address: [email protected] Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The Watermill should offer you the downstairs room. The place is beautiful - I will be upstairs.

Can I ask you how many people will you have in the Astor Room? When we went to look at the place, we couldn't actually go in because there was an event going on, so it was set up for the cocktail hour. Do you think the Astor would be big enough for 170 or so people?

I am having 140 - I would think you would go downstairs - I think when we book they told ua downstairs was for 175 or more - let me know what else I can answer for you - so far, so good at The Watermill.

Thanks for your help. I do have a few more question for you if you don't mind. Honestly, I have always had my heart set on the Watermill, I had gone to a wedding there a few years ago and loved it. I just felt that the Astor would be a bit too squished for 170 (we may have up to 200). The thing is, I have to guarantee them 200 people on a Saturday night, which I don't want to do because 'what if' we only have 170 or 180. Do you think that there is a way to work their numbers down? The only way they said they could do that for us was if we had a Fri night reception.... I was looking for a Saturday. Also, I'm afraid the downstairs room will be a bit too big if we only have 170. I love the dance floor, it's huge, but some people have told me a smaller room would be nicer and more intimate. When you booked with the watermill, was the price firm? Did you negotiate or have them throw anything in? Do you mind me asking when you are having your wedding? Any other info you think could help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Well, I have a different situation. I am getting married the day after Thanksgiving (FridaY), and in the afternoon. So yes, there was some room. But in any of your wedding planning, if you really want something, say something like, 'I'll give you a deposit right now if you just...' They want to close the sale sooner than later - but I do think that the upstairs would be too small, but they should be able to tell you - and yes - a room too big, people might get lost. Although the downstairs should probably be perfect. What month is your wedding - busy time of year? Try meeting them in the middle - say I'll guarantee you 180, and I'll book it today! Let me know...

Watermill (long)
I am also having my wedding of max 60 guests at the Watermill in June 2002, on a Sat afternoon, so I know that my prices, room etc. won't compare to yours (75 pp including tax/tip, 55 pp w/o tax/tip, 2/3 for children and vendors). The ceremony is there too for $300 incluing flowers. We booked it about 4 weeks ago, so they gave a small discount b/c of the short engagement. This price includes a cake, cocktail hour, sit-down dinner, valet parking, premium liquor, seating cards etc. Although I'm very excited about having it there and cannot say anything bad so far (except about the pushy party planner!), it did seem like they don't negotiate on prices or packages much. I was even told that they don't do food tasting b/c they are the most reputable place on LI. So, I guess since they get so much business, they may feel that if you don't book a date based on their prices, someone else will. My dinner room is the Bostonian, and I have to guarantee 50. I'm not that aggressive about negotiating, but after seeing how beautiful it is, and being able to have a June wedding for that price, and hearing so many good things, I didn't even bother to ask them to throw anything extra in (not that there is much left). But it does seem like they are pretty firm in their prices. Also, I wanted an outdoor wedding, but since mine is so small they won't let me have it outside b/c it's reserved for a larger party. I'm a little disappointed about that, but I don't have to worry so much about rain now! Let me know if you have questions. Good Luck.

Thanks for all of your help. I didn't have a date set in my mind, I have been saying either March, April or May of 2003, depending on pricing. March wasn't bad price wise, but they gave me a quote for a Friday night in the large room. I will keep in mind what you said. If I decide I really want it there, I will go and tell them I will sign right then and there if they can work the guarantee numbers down. Have you gone for any of the bridal showcases there? Have you tried the food? Thanks again for all of your help.

I went to one bridal show there last week - not too impressed with vendors there. I have been to other functions there, and the food is really good. Good luck to you!

Watermill Info
Mishy - We had about 150 in the main room upstairs (Vanderbilt?) at Watermill and there was plenty of room. Since they use oblong tables they actually change the table top to accomodate 10-12 or 12-14 people per table. Even with the larger table top the tables are not overshadowing the dance floor. - We loved everything about Watermill.
