Picture advice...do you see each other before the ceremony??

We met with a photographer the other day who told us that they advise seeing each other before the ceremony. I always thought that the first time seeing each other should be durin the ceremony...but she said many couples are now doin gpictures before the ceremony so that the couple can actually spend time in the cocktail hour. Has anyone done this or is planning on doing this? What would your advice be? Thanks!!

We are taking pictures before our ceremony. We are spending so much money we don't want to miss a minute of our party!
We will get to see each other all dressed up for the first time privately- without everyone staring at us- and the photgraphers and videographer will catch this moment on film. I think doing this will really calm our nerves.
I also like that we will get to spend more of the day together.

our friends are doing this for their wedding in september, and i actually think its a good idea- the first time you see each other is going to be special not matter what, and the photographers can set it up so its really nice.... also, you're spending so much on the food and stuff for the wedding, you want to be able to enjoy as much of it as you can- plus, if you go to coctail hour, you can get all your 'hellos and thanks yous' out of the way, so you don't have to go from table to table at the reception, and you can actually dance and enjoy yourself...
for us, we had enough time between the ceremony and reception that we didn't have to worry about it, but i definitely would have done it if time was an issue...

I have a long enough break between ceremony and cocktailo hour that I will do pics then so I can make it to cocktail hour and not see him before.

we are going to see each other prior, we really want to enjoy every MINUTE of our wedding with our guests......the photographer can set up the most beautiful 'first time you see each other' and capture it beautifully..i have seen about three or four that are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and emotional....but as always its whatever you feel comfortable with!!

Hey, I had the same dilemma when I met with a certain photographer. I'm just going to give you the link because there are so many different opinions.

As for FH & I, we are NOT seeing each other before the ceremony because that was more important to us that being able to have the CH with everyone. So, after the ceremony, we'll take pictures & spend some quite time in the Bridal Suite because they'll have food in there for us. We just want to enjoy the first moments of being newlyweds by ourselves. Then, think of how exciting it'll be when you two are introduced for the 1st time as the new MR & MRS at the reception.

It's a personal call...we are seeing each other b/c since we are marrying at our hall, the ceremony ends and then the CH begins immediately. Now, if you are marrying at a church and then there is lots of time in between, then wait....this is likely what we would've done had that been our situation...we just don't want to miss the party though, so we are foregoing the tradition.

Exact same feeling here. I think it's a VERY personal decision but I have a big issue with photographers pushing you to do it one way or another. I just always pictured my wedding day with my FH first seeing me when I walk down the aisle, I just think it will be more exciting. It should just be your choice, don't let your parents or photographer or anyone else change your mind, just do what you want.

We are seeing each other before the ceremony because we want our first moment of the day to be private (well, except for the photographers and videographer!) I think that with the music of the wedding, the crowd of your families and friends, the formality of the ceremony, and him standing at the altar waiting for you - I think that will make seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony special in itself even if you've seen each other before that point in the day.

We are not seeing each other prior to ceremony.

In order not to miss our CH, our photographer will start photos before the ceremony.

FH and his side, best men, etc

Me and my family and getting ready.

Only the photos together (FH and me, all family together) will be taken after the ceremony. It should only take about 20-30 minutes.

I agree with this. It is your decision and please don't let anyone tell you what to do. It is up to you and FH, not the photographer.

I have time between the church and cocktail hour, so we will not be seeing each other before, but if I was going to get married at my catering hall, I probably would have seen him before the ceremony.

I'm so happy we decided to see each other before the ceremony. We were able to spend the entire day together, and seeing DH calmed my nerves. The photographer was able to capture our first moment seeing each other. I'm glad we had a private moment together. I'm also glad we didn't miss out on any part of the day.

I want to see FH for the first time when the church doors open and I start to walk down the aisle. We will take pictures in between the church and cocktail hour.

You know I have been going back and forth with this idea because in this aspect I'd like to be a 'traditionalist' and not see FH before the ceremony, however taking pictures before the ceremony does seem very logical.

We are taking pictures after the ceremony, FH and I just want that first sight of each other to be when I walk down the isle. So we spoke to our photographer about it and we will have enough time to take our pics after the ceremony and still make it to the cocktail hour. We will go to the Cocktail hour for the last half hour which is fine with both of us.
