I am constantly seeing girls say that when they get back their proofs there were some pictures they wanted, but didnt get.. i.e. .. there is no picture of just the groom and his brother or there were no pictures of the grandparents, or no picture of the ring, no picture of the place cards that you put hours into making.. most recently read on a review 'no picture of fh's face as i walked down the aisle' etc ..
I figured maybe we can start a thread where the wonderful 10'ers help the 11'ers to avoid this !! It makes me nervous and i am a year away..
If you were lucky and your photog captured every thing you wanted... tell us some pics you are happy were captured.. or things you didn't even think about! Or what was on your requested photo list?
Thanks girls!!!!

Re: Pictures missed at your wedding?
here is another way i dropped the ball at my wedding...
i had my photog come at 2 so he can take pics of me getting ready... and the idiot that i am never computed that he was only with me for 8 hours... so he had to leave by 10:30 and i hadnt cut my cake and hadnt danced with my dad yet...
my uncle got a lot of great pictures of that... and Rob from Couped Up was there all night so we got it all on video but i would have liked to have some from Arek of those...
oh well
ETA: I didnt get my proofs yet though... so i will let you know of pictures missed... (also, fyi... i didnt give a must take list.)

Re: Pictures missed at your wedding?
I am going to offer advice and when I say this stuff I AM Not being a show off in any way...I am just giving the best advice and had to use my knowledge that helped me to get the pics I want. Before I go into that..this is some stuff I did learn on a side note.
The person you assign to be in charge to get people together for your must haves...drill it in their head..buy them a present..do whatever it takes. I had this person;s word and they were off drinking when I was taking portraits. I got what I wanted...but I never heard the end of it from family members on some pics that were not taken. Not the photogs fault. She actually bought up some but no one was to be found. That's OK, I got a lot of amazing shots of me and H.
Ok here's my brutal part.... I model part time..I also do make up (AGAIN not bragging just saying). So I know a thing or two. The most common thing I see you girls do is have a major list of must haves. NOt details but like pics you have seen. That P-ISSES a photographer OFF to end. You hired this person for their style. Let the day go organically!!!!! Plus, your day is totally different than the pics you saved. Also, I bet those pics were just taken by accident. I am not talking the pics of table numbers etc either.
When you hire a photographer..look at their BOOK. Not on line only. See how their pictures PRINT. See a couple of different weddings. Note if they take those details you so want or are they more portraity etc.
Move around? What? Yes move around. Don't stay in one position for so long when taking pics. SMILE. Don't over pose with a sourpuss face. It's a happy day! Make sure these pics trancensd tiime..don't believe me? Go look at some wedding pics from the 80's.
Keep in mind your box. What I mean is stay within the frame of the pic taking. Make believe your in a box that doesn't extend out. I know this sounds crazy but try it!
I don;t think my pics are be all end all but I got what I wanted. We missed some like rings on invite cuz MU artist was late. I had to take the pic myself but in the grand scheme of things, I am OK with that. So I missed one. No biggie.
Just be yourselves that day! And if oen or two details are not in bunch, no one IS PERFECT! Just like the girl who posted she had 3 photographers and didn't get them all. It's a crazy day !!
Ok off soapbox.

Re: Pictures missed at your wedding?
You must be reading my mind because I was just thinking about the one thing I regret about the wedding is that I did not give my photog a must take list and i know i must have missed a ton of pictures, my fault of course.
I didnt get individual pics with my bridesmaids and I know FH didnt get a picture with his best man. Its simple, but i completely forgot to tell my photographer. I also missed some spots around my RH I would have liked to have a couple of pictures of.

Re: Pictures missed at your wedding?
We didn't get any proofs back yet, but afterward I realized that we got all the formals out of the way at home, at the church, and between ch and the party . . . but we didn't take a single picture around the grounds of our RH (Inn at NHP), which is a shame, we had a gorgeous day!!
Also, we wrangled our families into large group shots - like us with my mom's side, us with my dad's side, etc, which was no easy task. I'm glad we did this, but it was hard work and by the end I wanted to strangle the photogs and I think DH and I were ALL SET with them! I hope we weren't rude, but seriously, we couldn't take it anymore. We did submit a must take list, so we'll see how that worked out for us.

Re: Pictures missed at your wedding?
@ Jayne (dfw343), I couldn't have said it better myself.
I have to admit, I didn't have a must take list. Please, we were just lucky enough to even afford a photographer. I did exactly what Jayne said, I hired my photographer and trusted him to take my pics. He did a great job on my engagement pics, so I trusted him to take my wedding pics.
I love my pics, I think considering the running around, my photographer was able to get about 95% of the pics I wanted.
The one thing that DH wanted, that I knew was not doable that day was to get a picture of us with his grandmother, who was not able to attend the wedding or reception. (She lives in the Bronx and I would've needed to get there from Long Island before heading back to LI for the ceremony, etc.)
As for me, I wanted a bit more up close and personal pics of DH and I, so we have decided to do After Wedding Pics. To capture those pics.
One thing I made sure was to smile throughout the entire day. My mother didn't do that and she regrets most of the pics of her coz she was sooo nervous for me that she didn't realize she wasn't smiling.
You have keep in your mind that someone is always taking a picture, so you should always keep on a happy face.

you can do a search for must take photos and some posts might come up... but i think that is more of a personal preference for each person...

Agree. And I also apologize in advance if this sounds smug.
Photographers will gladly accept 'shot lists' - as in suggested shots and PEOPLE you'd really like to make sure they get in photos, but when those lists turn into full fledged 'I need this exact photo that I saw on this other website and I really want to make sure we get it in this spot,' that is when the photographer is like 'huh?'
When you look at a photographer's work and decide to trust them to document one of the most important (if not THE most important) days of your life, you should just try and relax and be confident that they will do the job they know how to do. A GOOD photographer knows to take detail shots. It shouldn't even be a question. You shouldn't have to write that on any list! It's mind boggling to me that any girls would receive proofs without table or other detail shots.
If you have someone very important to you at your wedding (grandma, aunt, etc) that you'd like a photo with at some point, just introduce them to or point them out to your photographer and a good photographer will surely be certain to get plenty of genuine photos at some point during the night.
My advice is to not stress about this if you are confident with your photographer!

actually this is the complete opposite of what i meant. Im not going to asks my photographer to find a bridge somewhere because I saw someone else have a pic in front of a bridge!
What I meant was certain places in your RH i.e. FSIL got married in villa lombardis and didnt take one picture by the fountain and regrets it everyday, or a picture with just you and your mother, (things like this slip your mind when its the day of).. Pictures of your father seeing you for the first time, or fhs face when you come down the aisle.. Things that are important to you but maybe not to the photographer.. the photographer might thing the garden at you rh is important, and you think the hallway is.. Thats what i am asking for.. not to replicate pictures i have seen.

I didn't mean that example toward you. I'm sorry if it came across that way. I've seen a lot of brides who do this though.
I do understand what you are saying, hence the 'shot list' which is not only acceptable but welcomed by photographers. My bigger issue is regarding the actual photographers who have left out key elements of the day. If I hired a photographer who didn't include shots of my tables and other details which I've been working on making special for over a year, I'd be furious.
