FH and I decided that we are going to blow up photos of deceased grandparents and hang them on an easel at the reception. So it will seem as though we can be reminded that they are there in spirit. What do you think??

I think that is a lovely idea. We are going to do something similar, with smaller pictures on a table.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
I think it is kind of depressing. I lost my father 2 years ago and it is going to be hard enough going through the day without him there. I don't want to depress my family by having a picture of him there. It is sometimes hard for me to look at a picture of my dad. It is a happy occasion and I know my father would want me to be happy. I am going to put a poem my dad wrote in our program and acknowledge all those who cannot be there.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
One of my husband's family members had a memory table with pictures of deceased grandparents, uncles etc., They actually had a regular table set for dinner with china along with a picture set before each seat. Alot of the guests commented that this was sort of morbid and depressing. I agree that a wedding should be a happy affair. I just think it might be less depressing if the loved ones were mentioned as being remembered during the course of the ceremony or reception but not overly focused on as the main theme for the night.
I also went to a wedding where outside the reception door, they set up a table with the parents of the bride and groom, grandparents, uncles, aunts etc.. wedding photos in frames. This might be a nice way to remember those who have passed on by including their wedding pictures along with wedding pictures of family members that are still living.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
I just wanted to clairfy since there have been a couple of comments.
This was at a table next to us during the reception. It was out of the way next to us. People had to go out of their way to see it. It was for us and our family members.
It was in the lobby during the cocktail hour but off to the side and since we got married there most of our guest didn't enter through the lobby due to the set up of our hall.
Also, my cousin had recently passed away. My aunt gave me a picture of her to put on the table and then thought that it might be too upsetting for her to look at. We gladly removed her picture, out of respect for my Aunt though her name was on the poem.
The pictures on their were our grandparents, also my step grandmother and my wonderful aunt that died at 93 3 months before my wedding. She kept talking about being at my wedding and now she was.
I would not put any pictures up that would be upsetting to anyone. I would not want to upset anyone at my wedding. I hope that helps.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
I had a memory table mixed in w/ some of our engagement pictues & pictures w/ our grandparents as we were growing up.... I'm going to try to attach the picture... here it goes.....
to respond to your last post, it was really important to me too. My Nana had passed in December and it broke my heart. I'm sure whatever you end up doing will be very touching.
I also had something written in the program.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
Swags I think your set up was doen in such a tasteful manner. I love the idea. My FH father passed away when he was 18. His mother has never dated or looked at another man since. She believes that she will be together again with him someday and she is willing to wait for that day. I think she would like having his picture out. I will be a hard day for her no matter what. We are also going to mention our deceased grandparents in our program. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
We also had pics of our family-my DH's Dad & sister(died when she was 18)my aunt & my grandparents. We had a 'memory candle' lit during our ceremony & a poen in our program mentioning them & explaing the candle, then the memoery candle went on the mantle behind our table & on the mantle were pics of them-most 5x7's-we wanted them close to us. In this pic you see most of my beloved Grandpa's siblings admiring the photos-that's my Uncle Guy holding my GP's photo. This pic was taken by a guest with a table camera. It's on of my fav's because I know it made them happy to see their brother at his grandaughters wedding. Its bittersweet & all families will feel differently.

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
I was actually thinking of doing something similar to this - both of my parents passed on four years ago and I wanted to do something special so my FH and I have decided to look for wedding portraits of both of our parents and choose one of his parents and one of mine and display it on the mantle at the Vanderbilt Mansion where we pan on having the reception. This way it isn't so morbid and it is showing both families coming together as one through their children (me and my FH)!

Re: Pictures of the deceased at reception....
I don't have a pic online but I had a table set up at the cocktail table of a wedding photo from each of our parents, and grandparents. It was really sweet since many of the guests at my wedding were in my parents' bridal party!
It was a huge hit and everyone seemed to enjoy looking at the pictures

I lost my brother 3 years ago and I know he'll be there in spirit but to show that I will be thinking about him I am getting a memorial candle -Jewels by M&R Design in Port Jeff has them and they are printed with 'In loving memory of (name) who is/are present in our hearts.' i thought it was a nice idea.
