Pilates doesn't burn a whole heck of a lot of calories - you need to raise your heartrate to do that. But it will change the shape of your body and how you carry yourself, so you'll appear slimmer (It improves posture and muscle tone so much!) I love it. If you're looking to lose weight, you need to combine Pilates with aerobics, and weight training is great too (the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn on a daily basis).
I second the recommendation for the Kickboxing chick on iO on demand. I love her!
Oh, and for a good Pilates workout, I like 'Crunch Fitness: Fat Burning Pilates' with Ellen Barrett. It's not true Pilates, but Pilates-inspired moves that burn calories (lots of squats and standing Ab work and stuff) with 12 minutes of Pilates Ab excercises at the end. You can probably get it on half.com for like 5 bucks, and you'll love it!
Thanks for the recommendation. I think I'm going to get it. I started doing weights as well, so I should be good to go as long as I don't get lazy!
some pilates exercises incorporate weights...The one i do for an hour, the arm section is all weights maybe 2 moves are without but most of it is.
Plus i also have the pilates ball, and one of the workouts for the ball is for the arms and its all mostly weights and the ball

I used to have a ball, but it mysteriously disappeared when my ex and i split up years ago and he moved out! Loser stole my ball!!!
I've been trying to do weights 3x's a week and I've already started to notice a difference.

If you're trying to lose a decent amount of weight, like more than 15 pounds, you'll need to do more than 20 minutes. I have a 60min accelerated fat burning pilates workout from Winsor that works really well.
which tape is this?? just curious trying to find them on half.com or ebay haha

no the one i did was for arms and buns, but honestly it does your whole body...It is harder than regular type pilates, you really feel it working...its such a great workout and i think if its one you continue to do you can get in great shape.
