pill question

my FH and I are getting married in Oct. 2002 and are not planning on having children for at least a year after we are married. I'm currently on the pill and have been on it for a few years. When do I go off of it inorder to concieve?

My MOH has been trying to have a baby for over 1 year now and she was on the pill 2 years longer than I am. Her DR. told her that the pill takes a while to 'wear off' and that this is normal. If I want to have children in a year, should I stop taking the pill now? I have also heard of women getting pregnant right after they stop taking the pill- no waiting for them. What is right?

Re: pill question

My gyn told me that I just needed to wait one cycle after going off the pill, but I've heard some doctors recommend waiting 3 months.

Re: pill question

The debate ranges on this one. We too are in the same position. We were married in May and are not going to try to conceive until next summer. I am currently on the pill and have been on it for more than 5 years now. I want to come off it in a real bad way – not so much to conceive, but to get my body back to the way it should be naturally. Yes, technically you can get pregnant the moment you are off the pill, and I’ve heard people say anywhere from 3-6 months to even a year to be off the pill, however, I don’t think there’s a clear cut answer here. And I wish there was. Every person is different. We are also waiting a year, and I think I am making the decision to come off the pill and be off it a year before I want to be pregnant. I’m not getting any younger either (I’m 30) and feel that my old age when I do conceive will be working against me, so I want to do my best to get things right with my body. Those are just my thoughts… Good Luck.

Re: pill question

My friend had been on the pill for over 5 years. She went off it & the next month she was pregnant! Talk about fertile!!!! It all depends some woman just have to think wouldn't it be nice to have a baby & BOOM their pregnant. (That happened to my Sister 3 times!) And others like my cousin have been trying for YEARS!! My only advice is not to get frustrated. And remember its fun to try not a task!
