Pirate themed wedding at Westbury? Silly or original???

Ladies, I need help......... My fiancee proposed to me on a beach with a buried 'treasure map' that he made by staining it with coffee, burning the edges,........ the whole nine. Because of how amazing the map looks and how special it is to us, we had it framed and will display it at the hall during our wedding. We also decided to do 'a message in a bottle' invitations in honor of his proposal. Now, I thinking of keeping the pirate theme throughout the wedding.... I was thinking of doing smaller treasure chests filled with miniature rum or wine bottles and chocolate coins as favors. I originally wanted candelabras as the centerpieces, but because of how expensive they are, we are now thinking of doing larger treasure chests filled with various trinkets and 2 lanters as the centerpieces instead. Am I getting too carried away with the pirate theme since we are not planning to have our guests dress in costumes and we will be in traditional wedding attire as well? Also, Westbury manor is a restored victorian mansion and does not have a 'piraty' feel to it. What do you ladies think?????

I think you have to be really careful about not making it look like an 8 year old's birthday party.... but I think it can be done in a classy, sophisticated way as long as you do it less literally. I think there was an episode of my fair wedding that managed to work in pirate elements without making it ridiculous.

I think your ideas are good and it doesn't sound like you're going too far, except I don't know how I feel about the treasure chest cp's... I like the invites, favors and the lantern ideas though,I think they're the perfect touch of whimsy without making it kitchy, very nice

Thank you for your feedback. I will definitely have to look up that episode of my fair wedding because I do feel that I am getting a little carried away with my ideas. I am definitely reconsidering the centerpieces and will continue looking up candelabras as I think they would work better with the ambiance of the room. Included is the centerpiece i had in mind....

it is a cute idea however you don't want it to look like a birthday party.

I think you need to be very careful with themes at weddings, but if you are having an e-party I think you could play around with theme and make it fun!

For the wedding you could maybe make menu cards or programs that have the map look that your FH made for you.

Maybe get a cute grooms cake.

You could still do flowers, but have jewels added to them and added on the tables.

A candy bar where the candy looks like treasure.

On the bar you could put frames with the drinks named and based on the theme

I think you could find ways to add a touch of the theme, but not make it be childish. I think the centerpieces with the treasure chests may be a little much, but that is just me. At the end of the day it is your wedding and you need to do what is right for you and what makes you happy!

I agree with the girls that are saying that it is cute but be careful not to go overboard.

FH and I are both huge mets fans. We are bringing it into the wedding but I am being very careful not to go overboard. Here are some of the things that we are doing to give you some ideas:

1. We are having blue dresses and the flowers are going to be orange, yellow, blue and pink. I wanted the Mets colors to be present but not only the Mets colors.

2. Our monogram has a baseball logo feel but it is not the Mets logo.

3. We are trying to have Mr. Met come to the reception.

I am not doing Mets table numbers or place cards.

Hope this helps.

If this is what you want, if this is what makes you happy go for it. It's you big day

I think it will definitely give you a good shot at getting on 'My Fair Wedding'

He loves outrageous themes!

I think it could be cute. I personally would enjoy it, but as PP said, you have to be really careful to make sure it's elegant and not like a kid's party.

That is definitely a unique theme, I think the most important thing to keep in mind with any theme is not to go over board. Not everything has to be related to your theme but instead small touches of your theme. Like the other brides said, My Fair Wedding did an episode with a pirate themed wedding, definelty look it up. I think it can give you some good ideas of what to do and not to do.
