So, I've been super annoyed since the very beginning of my wedding planning knowing that I only have two florists to choose from at The Royalton. They both have good reputations and I chose one over the other because I received some good feedback from a trusted family friend who is also a florist.
The first sample centerpiece they did was not to our liking. I chalked it up to the fact that maybe I wasn't clear enough when I described what we wanted. The second sample was much better, but as I've explained in a previous post - he put the flowers on a stand that I specifically said I didn't want. No biggie, I guess. We worked out the contract, we gave a deposit....and then...
he calls me yesterday to tell me that his boss is REALLY mad at him because of the deal he gave us. I'm like, what?! We're paying a FAIR price for over-priced flowers and why on earth are you calling me to tell me this? And then he tells me that the owner is insisting that we pay the final bill by cash or check. We were planning on it, but why did he have to call me to tell me this? The whole thing has really turned me off from the whole place. FH is telling me that this is all some front to make me think I got a great deal. Puh-lease! If I didn't have to choose from only two florists to begin with, I would have went to our family friend and gotten them at cost. That would have been a great deal!

That is ridiculous. But, if you only have two to choose from and you signed the contract already, I guess just ignore him, especially since you were going to pay cash or check anyway. Do you think it's suich a great deal in reality?

sorry about your situation...but, I just went to a wedding a the Royaltan last Sat, and the flowers were absolutely beautiful...I am not sure which of the two florist they used, but I hope it gives you a little more encouragment

That's ridiculous. Did he think you were going to offer to pay more b/c he was in trouble with his boss? That would leave a bad taste in my mouth too. On a positive note, I did see your sample and I thought it was fantastic.

I really don't know. From what I can tell, it's about the same as deals I've seen from other brides here. We actually took things OFF the last time we met with him to shave off about $600. I just have no idea why he would call to tell me about what's going on with his boss. It just put such a bad taste in my mouth.

If I were you, I would tell your contact at the Royalton about this. That was extremely unprofessional of the florist to call you and tell you that. Just on spite, I would pay my final payment with a credit card. The only reason why they are saying that is because the credit card companies charge them a fee based on how much you spend. And if you give them cash, they won't have to pay as much income tax on your wedding. I get so angry when I hear stuff like this....
I wish you better luck with your other vendors.

I agree with above note. Let the Royalton know about this. I am sure they don't want to be recommended a florist who would do this. DOn't let them harass you.

I would have asked to speak with his boss just so I could tell his boss that I don't care. How good the deal is for them isn't your concern and you are only bound by the terms of the contract - and whatever payment methods it allows.
Tell them you were planning on paying by cash or check anyway, but you are extremely displeased that they called you to guilt you into a certain method of payment.

LOL - if this had been you and you spoke with the boss just to tell him you don't care, I would've begged you to let me listen in just to hear what the boss would've said, especially considering he couldn't do his own dirty work and made the salesperson call with this absurd news!

I would tell him to have his boss talk to you if he has a problem with it. I would tell him that per contract, you CAN pay by credit card (if that it the case), and let them sweat a little, but pay in cash anyway. Don't take their sh*t. They are a vendor and shouldn't be demanding anything. It is unprofessional!

Honestly, my biggest fear is that if this 'boss' or 'owner' - whoever it is - thinks that we're getting too good a deal - I'm afraid that they're going to skimp on our flowers the day of the wedding.

I'm confused about why you can't use whatever florist you want - do they have some rule about outside people? I know my hall had recommended vendors but I didn't use any of them...

I would also contact the Royalton and let them know about what is going on.. I'd be really steamed about it myself.

He didn't really say anything but assure me that it was going to be okay. He said he's known the guy we're using for 20 years and he's sure the flowers will come out exactly as we want them. Eh, we'll see, I guess.

Did you leave a huge deposit? Maybe try meeting with some other florists. there are so many out there. But if you love their work, then just try to ignore them!

I say check out other florists. How dare they tell you how you're paying with your money, especially if thats not the original terms. Remember you're the one paying them, not the other way around....don't stand for BS. I'd suck it up with the deposit, cancel the contract and go with someone you trust and feel comfortable with. There are soooo many talented florists out there. Don't feel stuck, or obligated...it's your money and more importantly it's YOUR day. Let's see, florists I have heard great things about... Pedastals Flowers by Michelle J A C K and R O SE Flowers by Topaz Colonial Flowers Fluerrisma Ask some of the other girls for the vendors that they are using.

Unfortunately, we cannot look at other florists because the Royalton requires us to one use one of two florists. I LOVE the Royalton, but this is the one very annoying thing about the place.
