I am considering using votive candles as my placecards, with the guests' name and table number written on the candle. If I don't go that route, I will just use the ones that the RH provides.

I was thinking about just using the ones provided by the RH
I had a friend who did this, they came out fine. I think I may just use these to save money on something people may not use.
A friend of mine did little boxes with candy and then printed stickers with table numbres and names on the top. I may duplicate this... not sure yet

Re: place cards
I might have ones made or I might make them and attach them to the favors. I havent decided it.

Re: place cards
I went to a showcase at Jericho Terrace and one of the vendors was offering a seating chart scroll, which was poster sized and all the guests names would be alphabetical. I thought is was really different, but FH and my mom vetoed the idea...

I am planning DYI'ing candles - edit : something like these
I love this idea, I am thinking of doing the same. I am little worried about people being able to hold those kind of candles, do you think it will be to hot?

I am putting tea light in them not a full votive candle. So I don't think they will be hot.

Hey,
Do you recommend using the vellum paper over using Avery labels?

The heat from the candles will make the labels fall off - you have to use the vellum paper
