Place setting for 8 or 12???

Do you get a setting for 8 or 12 for everydayware????

We were going to do 8, but then my mother convinced me to do 12.

we did 12 everyday, and 16 china, we have a large immediate family

I did 8 everyday and 12 formal, but I think I might make it 12 and 12. I'd do 12 and 16 (big family), but then I'd have to get 16 settings of silver, and 16 of crystal, and I don't think that's going to happen. I'd rahter start with 12, and then that way people will be able to get us other gifts in addition to it, we won't just get ALL formal tableware and no pots and pans for example.

I'm probably going to go for 12...I'll mostly likely be registering for a set that comes in 4's from Pottery Barn and I would prefer 12

I got 12 - but FH has a large family, 12 is just enough for his immediate family and mine to get together for a nice dinner. I was also concerned in case i break one.
