Placecard etiquette questions...

1...For a couple that's just dating, does it matter if the boy or girls name goes first? Or should I make the first name the person I actually know and not their date?

2...If a couple is engaged, is it tacky to make their placecard out as 'The Soon to Be Mr. and Mrs. X'? Or should I just do like above?

Oh wow, good questions! I may do it like I did the addressing for invites. Put the person I know first, then the date. If I know both, I'll put the guy first and then the girl.

Since I don't know how to do bold:

Answers:

1. Whoever you know in the couple that is dating goes first. (Girl or boy - doesn't matter)

i.e. Ms. Mary Smith and Guest (formal
or
Mr. Thomas Jones and Mary (informal - if you are 100% sure of dates name)

2. Do the same as above, at least I would.

i wouldn't put the soon-to-be .......

In my experience, I've seen my name go first if the party is hosted by one of my friends and FH's name is first if its from his family/friend.

Question # 1:
Usually the lady's name goes first.

Question # 2:
No, it's not tacky. At weddings I've been to recently I've picked up a placecard that said 'The Future Mr. and Mrs P' - I think it's cute and fun, and a nice acknowledgment of my engagement!

Edit for spelling
