I have several guests that have not provided me with the name(s) of their dates. So, I have decided to just print their name on the placecard instead of Ms. Susie Smith & Guest...is this rude? I think it looks better with just one name if the guests' names are unknown.

Re: placecard printing etiquette
I hope I'm not offending you here...but I think that's rude to do to the guest. JMO.

Not being mean here either. But I don't think that will really make the person or their guest feel comfortable or welcome. If it were me, I would be a little insulted. JMO!!

Is it possible to call these people and ask the name of their dates?

I think if you can not find out there names you should put 'and guest'.

Re: placecard printing etiquette
if they didn't provide you with the name of the guest- i would just put 'and guest.' i'm sure you don't have the time to call and ask all of them what their guests names are- it will be too time consuming.
I called everyone and asked for their guests name...if they didn't tell me on the response...
but they were few...b/c I made sure that I wrote the invite out with the SO's name on it as well

Re: placecard printing etiquette
if there are too many to call all of them, i'd just put 'and guest'. i've been the guest and have never been offended by seeing that to represent me. but if it's only a few - why not call them up to make it more personal?

Re: placecard printing etiquette
By not putting your guest's date's name or 'and guest,' the date may feel that he or she was not invited. You may be bombarded with questions such as 'Where is my date sitting?'. It may cause a lot of confusion.

If you don't know the person's name then just put 'and guest'. If you don't put anything then it might get confusing as to were they are sitting. I don't think anyone would be offended with 'and guest' and honestly people only look at them for about 2 minutes anyway lol.
good luck!!!!

Re: placecard printing etiquette
I went to a wedding once with FH and they only put his name on the placecard and I was offended. I think it would have been nice to put 'and guest' next to FH name. For my e-party I made it a point to get the names of the person's date, but if I couldn't I wrote 'and guest'
