Re: Placecard Question
I don't really know what ettiquette says, but I always put the woman's name first - on anything, regardless of whether they're married or not.

Re: Placecard Question
if you aren't putting mr. and mrs- i like mary and john smith.
tough question on the other one- since they get alphabetized. i guess you should put her name first since she's your friend and i'm sure she'll be looking for her name, not his. well, it actually works with these 2 names since S is before Z.
they get alphabetized by the first name on the card, right?

Re: Placecard Question
Well I meant her's first regardless of what his name is.

Re: Placecard Question
I would put her name first UNLESS she was the guest of the friend you were inviting...in that case, I would put his name first. Again, this is JMO, don't know if it's 'right'.

Re: Placecard Question
i think i would put the person you know first and then their guest's name, regardless of gender.
but then what happens if you kind of know the guest or have met them a couple of times?
maybe it would be easier to just stick to one thing and put the girl's name 1st - no matter what.

Re: Placecard Question
Uh! I have to do this this weekend and hand them in to the cateer in alphabetical order plus give in a sepeate sheet with the guests names in case they lose their cards and don't know where they are sitting so I feel your pain!
I am going to put the person I know first and then their guest's name, regardless of gender and alphabetize it based on the 1st person's last name. The person you know is going to look on the table for their name and not for their guests.

Re: Placecard Question
I did the woman's name first on everything even if she was the guest of someone we invited and we did not know her well. Women like to be more involved in this type of thing and weddings, so I did it that way. If the person we invited was bringing a date but we did not know the name of the guest (few cases), we put Mr. George So and So and Guest on the card. I like it like that!
