Placecards!!!! - Does the man's name always go first?

I am writing out the placecard list for the calligrapher and I have a dilema.

I work with women who live with their boyfriends (they are older women). Do I put the women's name first or the man's name. FYI: I do not know the men at all if that helps. TIA

I don't know what etiquette would strictly dictate in this regard, but, if you have time, find out the gentlemen's names. If you simply can't, I think it would be okay if you put 'Joanna Smith & Guest' on the placecards. I could be wrong, but it seems reasonable enough if you don't know the names of their boyfriends.

I do know their names but it just seems weird because I don't know them and for some reason it seems strange. I actually addressed the invites with the women's name on top

I would go with the ladies first mentality.. it is not a formal invite.. it is a place card-- and when they are being seated-- the woman always sits first..

Can you see my reasoning?
