Places to visit for a weekend on Long Island, besides the Hamptons?
My friend and her DH are wondering if there is anywhere they can visit for the weekend of my wedding - Memorial Day weekend. She said not the Hamptons...and I don't want her to have to drive too far the day of the wedding either. I can't think of anything else besides Montauk. Any suggestions would be terrific!!

Greenport (which is on the North Fork) has nice bed and breakfasts. It is so nice and CHILL there. Plus you can go on many wine tours, and hey, who doesnt like free wine tastings.

I would say maybe a B&B by the wineries are always nice.

I was thinking Montauk too. The Lighthouse is out there. There are the wineries too.
Riverhead has wineries too, and the outlets. There is the aquarium out there which was really nice. It's not Seaworld, but we had fun.
Also, there is good old Port Jeff with some of the cute shops and restaurants to eat outside.

I'd recommend the North Fork, the Wineries or Fire Island.

Avoiding the Hamptons during Memorial Day weekend is definitely a good idea. The wineries of the north fork are great. Greenport is really cute too.

I'm a little confused. Your friend said no to the hamptons and you don't want her to have to drive too far... but you were thinking of montauk? Do you realize that Montauk is at the end of long island and is farther to drive to than the hamptons?

Oh okay. I figured that's what you meant. I can't really give you suggestions on where to go up the island, but i would definitely stay away from the hamptons during that holiday weekend (including sag harbor & riverhead). The traffic is insane and you'd most likely spend all of your time sitting in your car.
