planning from afar

Hi ladies! I got engaged over the holidays and am so excited to be planning our wedding! We currently live in the DC area, but I grew up on LI and we are definitely getting married there.

I can't get to LI to see halls until Presidents Day weekend in Feb. I am a little nervous that all the dates I want will be taken! We are hoping for end of June/early July of 2012. Do you think that is too long to wait?

Also has anyone checked out Lombardi's on the Sound or Bellport Country Club, those are two we are thinking about.

Any advice for a girl who has to plan from far away would be greatly appreciated!

I doubt a few weeks will make any difference, but I would call to make the appointments and talk to them about the dates they have available. Just explain that you do live far away, that you don't want to fall in love and then find out the date isn't available, etc.

Congrats on getting engaged

I think you'll be just fine to look at places then. I'm planning from out of town too, there are a few of us, so we're all here to help each other.

I checked out Lombardi's, its really nice but not what we were looking for. We also looked at the Vineyards, Giorgios(where we booked), and East Wind.

A lot of the other girls looked at places closer to the city and in Nassau, I knew I wanted East End.

Thanks girls, I feel better already! I have been to a ton of wedding on LI, since most of my friends are married already, so I am hoping to use most of their vendors that I liked, that will hopefully help with the planning.
good luck to everyone!

Congrats on getting engaged!! Good Luck with planning. Honestly, I think you will find something you love that isn't booked. My advice is to call and make sure there are dates before you go.

Agreed -- just send a quick email and ask if the dates are available so you don't waste your time. I'd check now and then ask if they find someone who is interested in that date to let you know. You may not be able to do anything about it, but at least having the information will put you at ease until you are able to get up here and look in person.

good luck and welcome to the boards!!

Congrats on getting engaged and welcome!

You should def. browse the halls online and get an idea of what you like. This way, when you come to NY in Feb, you're looking at places you're actually interested in.

I would also call the halls and get an idea about dates over the phone. They shouldn't have a problem giving those to you.

I think you have plenty of time though and you should definitely not be worried about all of the dates filling up. There are plenty of them!

congrats and welcome!!

and june/july is still far enough away that if you're flexible with the actual date they will definitely have availability!
