Planning from far away and need some help

Hi,

I am new to this board. I grew up on Long Island and now I live in Madison, Wisconsin. My husband (we are all ready married) is from Sweden. We did a civil cerermony in Madison back in April (just the two of us and two witnesses) and now we are planning the 'Big Day' on Long Island to share it with our friends and family.

I lived in NJ for 10 years before moving to Madison so I don't really have any friends left on Long Island. I have kind of left it to my parents to do the wedding planning. I had them scope out places and they narrowed it down to 3 and Jonas and I came out a few weeks ago and settled on Vineyard Caterers for next September. I love my parents dearly but their taste is not the same as mine so I have been poking around on this board and its seems like a wonderful group of girls. I can't afford to fly home all the time to do wedding stuff but I hope to be able to use this site to help me. Plus, I don't know anyone else getting married so this great to talk to other brides and be excited for each other.

I think it can get rather boring to talk to people all the time about a wedding especialy if they arent married. At least that is how I felt when people used to drone on and on about their weddings and I wasn't even invited!

Some the first thing I need help with- Officiants for a non-religious ceremony- any recommendations?

THANKS!

welcome!

Aww that would have been cool to do the civil ceremony in Sweden - in that room next to where they give the nobel prizes out.

I think the vineyard caterers is a wonderful choice. And there are officiants listed on here. I think if you do a search on the name some reviews will come up.

Good Luck

I can't recommend any officiants, although I would say to check here under 'Vendors' and then 'Officiants'. Theknot.com also has local boards and vendors, I would check there as well.

Just wanted to say welcome and congrats on the renewal...happy planning!

Carolyn, Just want to welcome you to this site! And though I am sorry I cannot offer any suggestions for an officiant, I wish you lots of luck on the wedding plans.

AND...I used to live in Evansville (outside of Janesville) and used to work in Madison!!

Try Father Allmen. He's from Hampton Bays and all the money goes to the church there. That's who we're using. If you want, FM me and i'll send you his phone number. Good luck!
