So I want to stay on 2 islands (with day trips to other islands as necessary) so we don't live out of suitcases the entire time. Which 2 islands have the most to offer? We're water-lovers, but we also need some quiet time. FI must get to Pearl Harbor, and any other historical/volcano/super-intriguing sites.
I'm lost as to which islands we should stay on - and which ones we simply visit.....Please help!!!! (I'm planning to be there a minimum of 12 days)

We just got back from Hawaii a few days ago. We went to Honolulu (b/c I had a conference there), then Maui and the Big Island. If you are definitely going to Oahu and need to pick one other island, I would recommend the Big Island (Hawaii), unless you want lots of nightlife. It was stunning. I have never been to Kauai, but from what I understand, it is really incredible. Good luck!

We did Maui and the Big Island. Loved both. Big Island has the volcanoes. Maui also has LOTS to do during day and at night. It is your choice.

We knew we were going to Oahu and Maui but couldn't decide between the Big Island and Kaua'i. We finally decided on Kaua'i because it's more lush than the Big Island. We've heard wonderful things about both islands, so whichever you choose, I'm sure you'll be happy.

We went to Maui & Kauai. Both were great Maui had more to do there during the day and at night and Kauai we very Green & Lush and relaxing. Its all a matter of preference.

Thanks for your feedback! The Pearl Harbor trip can be a day trip, if there isn't any other reason to stay on Oahu. I'm just getting up to speed on the different islands and what they each have to offer.
The way I see it, it's between the Big Island, Oahu and Maui - - - it's just a question of which to stay on and which to day-trip to.

Just got back from HM...Maui was amazing...so much to do...we stayed there 7 days. Kaui was ok. less to do and a little rainier, but pretty...definitely maui though...really pretty views and great restaurants! I wish i could go back!
