Well, most of you will jump down my throat for saying this, but i'm not a big valentine's day girl. I think it's a commerical holiday that is totally overrated. I don't need a special day picked out to tell the man I'm marrying that I love him with an over priced box of chocolate's. With that said, FH enjoys the day, lol. We made reservations at Blackstones for the 15th and that's it. No presents, maybe just a card (it kills me to be FORCED to purchase a card for $3.95 for THAT day when FH and I give one another cards on random days throughout the year).
Anyway, I'm not a total bah-humbug... what's everyone else doing?

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
I cant stand V-day..i never enjoyed it. With a boyfriend, without one..it was all the same.
This year (even though its not for vday, it was a xmas gift) FH and I will be heading down to AC for the night on the 16th for a concert I didnt realize it at the time that it was going to be nearly impossible getting a hotel room b/c it was V-day weekend. We're going to end up spending a ton of money for a few hours in the room...grrrrr

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
i agree totally. we usually don't do much because my birthday is two weeks later so we just celebrate that. i actually always tell him never to get me stuff on valentine's day b/c it's so much more $$$
BUT we are both in class that night so we probably won't even see each other, so i think just for fun i might send him something from shari's berries with a note : 'to my FH - enjoy your last single V-day!'

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
Danielle I feel the same way....I never celebrated Valentines Day with FH, mainly because he has never been home.
But I think it is overrated as well. I am a big card person so I always am sending Fh cards just for the he11 of it because I love him haha.
Plus I have class till 9pm on V-Day and FH will be out training still. So I probably wont even talk to him
But my parents got us a gift card to Blackstones as one of our christmas presents to both of us. I am so excited to use it when he comes home!!! And he kept it with him because he knew I would take someone else there while he was gone because I want to go so badly haha!! Let me know how it is!!!!

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
well, FH and I never really go all out on V-day. all we are doing is having a nice romantic Spaghetti Dinner (lady and the tramp style) and 'enjoying' each other all weekend since my parents are going away (and we live with them)
Oh I forgot to add that I was so excited that I found a 'Happy Valentines Day Fiance' card at the dollar store!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree... definitely think it's overrated and only a commercial holiday. We usually do go to dinner, but it's usually on the closest weekend and not on Valentine's day. This year we're going to dinner on Friday (15th), but we haven't made plans yet.

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
We have never done anything for VDay, but this year FH insisted on doing something special. So he made reservations at Captain Bill's on the 14th. Mainly because he didn't want to deal with crowds on the weekend!!!

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
I have to say that i look forward to Valentines day every year. Its a day me and FH get all dressed up and dolled up and go out for a sophisticated evening.
I can agree about the commercialization of the holiday, but i try to really think of it as a day where we definately have plans to be together.
Also- If i wasnt the one who called to make the reservations and plans for the evening, FH wouldnt do it, he is not really into days like valentines day, and he does it and goes along with it to make me happy, wich i appreciate

yea we're not big v-day people either- we dont exchange gifts for it ever- i usually just make fh cookies or something and we go out to dinner. this year we are going to see a broadway play- but only because my mom gave us tickets as part of our christmas gift

I understand that it is special to some people and I'm not trying to trivialize it. I enjoy spending the time with FH and we always do something... in fact, it was our first v-day together that FH told me he loved me, so THAT day has a special meaning, but the day, to me, has gotten out of control... stores have had vday decorations up since January 1st!

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
FH and I always complain what a commercialized holiday this is and yet we both fall into the trap and buy eachother something!!!!!
FH is actually taking me to see Rent that night b/c he knows how upset i am that it is closing (this will be my 4th time seeing it!) This means the world to me b/c he hated Rent and for him to see it again with me means the world!

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
I think V day is a great excuse to get dressed up and go out together. FH and I actually got engaged last year on V day and we had our first date on V day....so FH proposed at the same restaurant he took me to on our first date 6 years prior...now it will be 7 years so we will probably do something special since its our 1 year engagment anniversary!

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
i have no clue yet what we're doing yet, we didn't really discuss it. We just have so many other things in february and talked more about those things...His b-day feb 5th, mine feb 15th and then 17th our anniversary. I don't want to do anything too big or spend too much money...We already have our b-days to buy for and obviously with the wedding so close we need to save

Re: Plans for Valentine's day?
I am so glad I am not the only one who just isn't into it. My FH loves it though and hates that I am just whatever about it.
We have gone out a few times for it, hotel room the whole thing, but I love when he cooks dinner and we just stay home. I always get him candy and DVDs or something like that. He gets me flowers and a gift. This year I told him dinner would be more then enough because we are saving -- i am sure he won't listen.
Don't get me wrong I appreciate that he loves it and buys me things but I just hate all the hype around it.
