I want FH to have the very best. But I can't decide on what to get him. I wanted to get him something with diamonds but I am trying to decide between platinum and gold. He's a very active person so I am looking for something that won't get damaged so easily but at the same time it will look great and stand out to those wandering eyes of other females.

Re: platinum or gold
for the man's wedding band, gold is GREAT. Platinum is a much heavier and more $$$$ metal. The reason it is used, mostly in engagement rings....is b/c it needs to hold in a diamond, and you want the strongest possible metal to hold in a diamond. For the groom's band, gold is perfect. I also think that in your particular case, you should definitely get the gold b/c you were talking about FH's finger size being undeterminable. If you get it and they need to re-size it, gold is much easier to work with then platinum. I got a hands on education in this this weekend....I have a family heirloom ring that I needed re-sized. It has a lot of small, tiny, pave like diamonds. Its about 100 yrs old, and b/c it is platinum, and the work is so delicate, it cannot be re-sized. If it were gold, it would have been. GO FOR THE GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My FH got Titanium...It's lightweight and very durable, if your FH is an active person!

got FH white gold b/c he is constantly moving furniture and platinum is very soft.
Platinum is not soft, it is much harder than gold. Platinum in its purest form is soft but when an alloy is added it's sometimes twice as hard as gold. I have a 14K gold ring that's completely bent out of shape after years of wear and getting stuck in the door. My e-ring is platinum, banged it and my finger in a steel door and it's never lost it's shape.

My platinum prongs have already been bent if I did it again I would do white gold, I need something stronger.

hmm.... that almost sounds like your jeweler screwed you over... maybe the point where the platinum meets the gold isn't strong enough? platinum is MUCH stronger than gold and is the preferred metal for holding in diamonds. my ering is platinum and i have yet to see a scratch in it - and i'm not a very graceful person.

Re: platinum or gold
My fh will probably go with Titanium, he doesn't like yellow gold and doesn't care for platinum and definitely does not want diamonds.
