I just saw a pros and cons of platinum vs gold somewhere, it might have been on the Knot. Let me see if I can find it.

Re: PLATINUM OR WHITE GOLD? your opinions
My grandfather was a jeweler and he worked with mostly platinum. His company's designs were sold at Cartier. He didn't always make a lot of money, so sometimes he used gold when making jewlry for the family. My grandmother always had stories about how all the wealthy people and famous people shopped for platinum only! So now having platinum makes me feel richer!!!!
Well I have a platinum engagment ring...but I am considering a white gold wedding band only because my e-ring gets scratched to easily

A good thing about gold is that it holds up better, so if scratching is a problem for you, then you could go with a white gold wedding band. I don't think you can tell the difference between them (and it will save you some money).

Platinum if you have a platinum e-ring and want to wear them together b/c white gold gets yellowish over time. They will not match.

Re: PLATINUM OR WHITE GOLD? your opinions
while i would like a platinum band--my e-ring is white gold. so i will be getting a white gold band. platinum was just out of our budget. i think years down the line perhaps we'll treat ourselves to a platinum set for like a 10 or 15 yr anniversary.

Re: PLATINUM OR WHITE GOLD? your opinions
I have a white gold e-ring and a platinum wedding band AND a white gold wedding band.
After the wedding I will eventually take the diamonds out of my e-ring to have a replica of the setting made in platinum and then put the diamonds in that so it can match the platinum wedding band I bought.
I'll deal with it not matching until that time. Not a big deal for me since hopefully I can get the platinum setting done by next Christmas.

Whichever matches your e-ring. You will notice a difference in color if your e-ring is white gold, and your band is platinum (or vice versa).

I have pltinum, and I don't like it. I am going to change it to white gold. My band needs to be buffed a lot AND it's to big and very hard (and expensive)to size. Also, did you know that platinum can crack?

I have a platinum e-ring and I got a platinum band. My sister has a platinum e-ring and a white gold band, you CAN see a difference. The white gold yellows as white gold is yellow in its pure state and is mixed/dipped in rhodium to get its white color. So essentially if you had platinum it may scratch and need buffing but the color wouldnt change as it is white in its pure form. BUT you'd have to take the same time to have a white gold band dipped in order to maintain its color. For me? Id rather buff than dip.

My mom was married for 49 years with a platinum ring and it never cracked. And trust me, she is VERY hard on her hands.

Re: PLATINUM OR WHITE GOLD? your opinions
my e-ring and w-ring are both platinum. it is obviously a personal choice and I know platinum is A LOT more $ than white gold, but for rings that I will wear everyday for the rest of my life, I wanted platinum.
pros to platinum: much harder and more durable than gold. It is also a naturally white metal, so you will never see a yellowish tint to it. cons to platinum: $$$
pros to white gold: costs a lot less than plat cons: gold is naturally yellow and you will have to get it dipped in rhodium every now and then
there is no wrong answer though, it's a personal preference
