I am definitly no expert-- very far from it! My impression is that platinum is a really strong metal and the reason it's so popular is that it can hold up your diamond without needing repairs... so I definitly think its strong enough to hold up your diamond.

My ring is all platinum and I have not had any problems. You should take it to your jeweler and have the setting checked every few months regardless of the metal of the setting.

mines all platinum and from what i understand its a very strong, durable metal (may scratch a bit easier but nothing notlike crazy), and like the previous poster said you should get your ring setting checked every 6 months or so

Mine's all platinum and I'm not worried about it at all.

I just got a platinum wedding ring to go with, too.

Your fine, platinum is a softer metal only in cases of bending it and it is still able to remain strong and hold what it needs to.

As for it scratching easier, it does but...that's part of the beauty of platinum...it changes and looks like a softer white rather than just worn.

White gold shines more but, eventually it looses it's white and the yellow gold becomes visible. Therefore, it will need to be redipped.

Platinum is strong and beautiful- don't wory.

Platinum is a very strong metal. It will easily last you 30 years without any problems. The problem is, when platinum is going to give, it does not bend first - it just gives. Meaning, you have no warning. Gold, on the other hand, is softer but will bend, allowing you time to get the ring checked before any diamonds fall out.

My e-ring is all platinum and I'm not concerned. You shouldn't be either.

I have a platinum band with platinum prongs and I'm not worried about it holding the diamonds. I'm more worried about scratches, platinum scratches very easily.

i have platinum and white gold prongs - at the suggestion of family and the jeweler. i've heard conflicting opinions on what's the better way to go but i wouldn't be worried with either choice. with all rings, you're supposed to get them checked out every few months anyways to make sure all the stones are still secure.

eta: the jeweler told me to use my nails everyday to wiggle the stone and see if it's at all loose, if it is to bring it in immediately to get the prongs tightened. LoL - i try to wiggle the stones multiple times a day just to be on the safe side!
