Please help: How should I honor these friends? (long)

Please help: How should I honor these friends? (long)

Backstory: I received a graduate fellowship (which covers my law school tuition for all 3 years!! woohoo!!!) and have gotten really close with the other girls in my incoming class. (about 5-6 other girls, mainly PhD students).

FH and I got engaged in May, and picked our bridal party right away. I was friends with these girls but thought it would be weird to ask any of them to be bridesmaids since we didn't even know eachother a year yet. However, we have gotten really close and they are now my best friends at school.

I want to think of some way to honor them at my wedding, since they aren't in the bridal party. I don't really want to give them a job to do or anything that will burden them, just something to make them feel special.

Possible Idea: Last year when we got our fellowship pins we also took home the table centerpieces (these horrific yellow flowering plants) and we've had a contest to see who could keep theirs alive the longest. They are now kind of a standing joke among us, and I was thinking about something related to yellow flowers -- maybe a corsage (but those get itchy?) or giving each a yellow rose or daisy (?) or something else. Is that too cheesy? Any ideas?

Edit: for fun I attached pictures of the plants

We're not really having 'readings' -- we're having a jewish ceremony and as of right now the rabbi is doing everything.

I edited my post.. it's possible we could incorporate something, but I'm afraid it would make things too complicated. Thanks for the idea though, I'll mention it to FH and see if theres something we could do with the ceremony...

readings are a great job.

you could get them a yellow flower pin so they have it forever too.

the yellow flower pin is a good idea....i was also going to say they could hand out programs, or if you are doing bubbles, rose petals or anything like that they could hand them out to people as they walk in???

How about a 'reading' at the RH, like maybe before the official toast or speech? It could be a poem or a short love story -- something to add to the romance of the evening.
