There's this scrubby thing called a Dobie pad that's safe to use on non-stick cookware.

Kitchen cleaning uses include all Teflon™ and Silverstone™ coated cookware, dishes and china, countertops, enamel and porcelain, appliances, fruits and vegetables. Bathroom cleaning uses include tile, shower doors, and fixtures. Additional uses include cleaning walls, spot cleaning carpets and clothing, and removing insects from automobile bumpers, grills, and windows.

ETA: I don't have All Clad but I do have Calphalon professional non-stick and the cleaning guide says to use the Dobie pad.

stainless

That's really hard to clean, but you can use almost anything on stainless. You can use metal utensils on stainless but not non-stick. I use SOS pads on my stainless. I also have non-stick for the saute pans which are a dream to clean. I have a whole set of stainless and a few pans I bought from open stock for frying and sauteing. You have to de-glaze the pan as well, if you're making something that tends to stick, get some water in the pan while it's hot to de-glaze before it cools down

I only use a soft sponge on the non-stick surfaces.

Oh, duh, I just assumed that you had non-stick pans and that's why your DH told you not to use a scrubby sponge.
For stainless steel you could probably use a liquid metal cleaner to get those spots off.
Actually, I just did a search on cleaning All Clad (I'm reeeeealy bored today ) and I found this post that says to use this stuff called 'Bar Keeper's Friend'. It can be found at Williams Sonoma:

This gentle, efficient cleanser became famous back in the 1880s, when its inventor began selling the product to saloons where there was an abundance of ornate metalwork. Delighted with the dazzling shine on their copper and brass detailing, saloonkeepers christened the cleanser “Bar Keepers Friend.” Today, the smooth, mild cleanser continues to work its magic on a wide range of surfaces, including copper, brass, stainless steel, ceramic tile, cement grout, porcelain, glass and fiberglass. Effective and safe for cleaning and polishing appliances, sinks and countertops with all sorts of finishes, this tried-and-true cleanser also does a great job on cookware, from stainless steel to enameled cast iron. 12 oz.

I have the same problem after DH used one of our pans. All-Clad's site recommends Bar Keeper's Friend, also. I think I've seen it at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

All-Clad's website specifically does not recommend using steel wool. Doing so will void the warranty.

I second this - works AMAZINGLY well and is totally safe for stainless - I work at a kitchenwares company and its what we use and so I know it's safe - I use it on my personal stainless cookware too. just DONT use it on anything non-stick!

P.S. I also use this on my tub and its great. Worlds best cleaning product!

ETA: You can get it at any grocery store for about $2 a can.

That was my situation as well- thanks for all of the help- I got some of the spots put w/ a little soft scrub and the scrubbie side of the sponge. I am ordering the bar keepers friend right now.

Thank everyone for your help and research

Another cleaner like Bar Keeper's Friend is Bon Ami. It used to be one of the items on the Price is Right all the time, and I never had any idea what it was!

I have Cuisinart stainless steel pots we had this issue so I Checekld teh brochure that came with it & they reccomned Bon Ami ( DH didn't know what it was either )

They also reccomed some process of heating water in the pot/pan to clean it. . .I haven't done it but DH syas it helps. Also, the brown spots are natural, & not 'dirt' I think it is fine to leave them, but they aren't pretty, so you can clean them.
