Any advice would be great... Here are the facts...My husband and I have been married for almost 2 years. We're both 28 and have good paying jobs. We live in a one bedroom co-op which is pretty roomy. I will be going to school three day a week in September to finish my Masters degree (teaching). We've decided to start trying for a baby at the end of august. I know that my husband and I are ready and that's all that matters. However, I am very close to my parents and they are very opinionated, saying that we should have a house before children. We haven't told them our plans and will not. But their comments make me wonder, do we necessarily need a house before a child? How do you know it's the right time for you???

I think if you're both ready, it's the right time. You can definately manage in a roomy 1 bedroom apt. for awhile. DOn't forget, the baby isn't very mobile for quite awhile.
Good luck TTC!!!

you don't NEED a house before a baby. It would be nice I'm sure...you would already have the extra bedroom for the baby once they come out of the bassinette. If you're ready, you're ready. NO ifs, ands or buts about it.....Good Luck

Re: Please help me!
I never lived in a house until my DH & I started living together.
Until I was 5 yrs old (& my brother was 11), we shared the only BR in our apt & my parents slept on a pull-out couch in the LR.
Then we moved to a 2BR apt & my brother & I still shared a room until he went to college!
HOUSE ... SCHMOUSE!!!
ETA: My friend who is now expecting her 2nd, lived in a 1BR until about six months ago (her daughter will be 2 in Dec) - the crib was in the LR of their very TINY NYC apt.

I agree that you don't need a house before TTC. If you are both ready, I say go for it. Good Luck TTC!! Besides I am sure when your parents here that they are going to be grandparents, they will be so excited.

I am due in a month and we are still in our apartment (2 BR) and we get comments from our inlaws like 'Oh, it would've been nice to be decorating the nursery in your house instead of an apartment' blah, blah, blah. You can't hold up the rest of your life because you don't have a house.

It must be nice having a one bedroom apartment, at least the baby will have it's own room. I just get nervous when I read all the facts about when you have a baby, the first year you spend about $20,000~with medical, food, clothing, hospital fees, etc... I don't want to get stuck living in my apartment. Long Island is very expensive to buy a house nowadays. At this rate...I'll talk myself out of it!!
