Hi everyone I am new. I posted this on the Help a Bride section too. My name is Jessica and my *fiance* proposed to me on New Years Day! (right after the ball dropped!!!!!!)
We're trying to set a wedding date and I'm hoping you can all help me. We started dating on July 1st and would love to get married on our anniversary but it won't be on a Fri/Sat/Sun again until 2011. We don't want to wait that long! Since we also got engaged on January 1st, we'd like to get married on the first of some month. We'd love to do 2008 since we feel like 2008 is 'our year' but don't know if we'll have enough time to plan.
The months in 2008 where the first falls on a weekend are:
Feb -- Friday March -- Saturday June -- Sunday August -- Friday November -- Saturday
While we'd prefer 08, the 1sts in 2009 are:
Feb -- Sunday March -- Sunday May -- Friday August -- Saturday November -- Sunday
How much time do you think we need to realistically plan a wedding? Are there any dates you would suggest or rule out?

Realistically I think November is the first one you will find a date for....you may get luck with August, but that's just under 8 months away--totally possible, but might be a little rushed. We got engaged July 20, 2007 and are planning the wedding for June 7, 2008--we were only able to get that date at our hall due to a cancellation, but it's just about 10.5 months....and it's working out so far--Nov 1 would be about the same time frame so I'm SURE you can do it--but start looking for a hall ASAP! that will be the hardest part!

I think it is possible to plan it in 6 months. Not really any sooner. That said. If you prefer 08, i'd go with November.

id shoot for november if you'd like an 08 date! its enough time to plan, you will have more of a problem with places/vendors being booked for 08

I say you definitely have enough time for November, and maybe even August! Go for it! Maybe try calling some of the important vendors first to see if they have availability (like reception halls, photographers, etc.) Good luck and have fun!

Since its already 2008 I would shoot for the November so you have some time to plan
you can definitely do it, but you have to start right away

Thank you very much! I think we will try for November and see if any halls have openings. We'd consider August too but it might be a lot more expensive because it's the summer. Maybe we would get a good deal for booking later, but we will have to find out.
I guess we can always do 2009 if we have to though. Thank you for your help!

If you arent set on a particular time of year, I'd go for November 08 as well. That should give you time to plan without feeling rushed.
I think someone cancelled their 6/1/08 wedding though so there may be openings for earlier dates if you want to do things really fast.

my brother & his wife planned a wedding in 3 months....and she's a lawyer & he's a teacher.
There are some things that are VERY beneficial to doing it quickly...less time for people to let you down...and less time for things to go wrong!

My cousin planned her wedding in 7 months and said she felt very rushed, but I know there are girls on here that did it in less. I would aim for November!

Congrats to you! Come join the 08 brides aim for November. Seriously choose whichever pace you feel is right for you to plan. It varies for each person with their finances, time etc. what do you feel in your gut?

I would say find out what hall you like, and then find out if they are available. If you are willing to pull the wedidng together quickly, you can save a lot of money by picking a day the hall hasn't sold yet...

They will be able to tell you over the phone if they are available.... It can't hurt to check the Official 2008 Brides thread - it has all of us listed and what date and what Reception Hall we're using...
If you can find a hall - the rest will fall into place...
