Hi everyone I am new. I posted this on the Help a Bride section too. My name is Jessica and my *fiance* proposed to me on New Years Day! (right after the ball dropped!!!!!!)
We're trying to set a wedding date and I'm hoping you can all help me. We started dating on July 1st and would love to get married on our anniversary but it won't be on a Fri/Sat/Sun again until 2011. We don't want to wait that long! Since we also got engaged on January 1st, we'd like to get married on the first of some month. We'd love to do 2008 since we feel like 2008 is 'our year' but don't know if we'll have enough time to plan.
The months in 2008 where the first falls on a weekend are:
Feb -- Friday March -- Saturday June -- Sunday August -- Friday November -- Saturday
While we'd prefer 08, the 1sts in 2009 are:
Feb -- Sunday March -- Sunday May -- Friday August -- Saturday November -- Sunday
How much time do you think we need to realistically plan a wedding? Are there any dates you would suggest or rule out?
Thanks in advance. I hope you can help me.

OK, I think we want to do 6/1/08, 8/1/08 or 11/1/08. I guess I'll start calling places tomorrow. Will they tell me over the phone if they have booked my date or do I have to go there in person? How will I know if they are giving me a good price?
Should I book the hall right away if theres an opening or should I check to make sure there are photographers and florists still available first?
Good luck! My cousin planned her wedding in 45 days! It's definitely do-able!! Congrats and good luck!!!

Congrats on your engagement! The halls will tell you over the phone if they're booked or not.

Re: Please help me! First of the month?
I think 11/1/08 would be the best date to aim for. To give you an idea of a planning timeline, I got engaged in September '07, began planning in October '07, and booked my wedding for November 7, 2008. So I have a lil over a year, which is nice cause I haven't felt rushed at all. I booked my DJ the same day as my hall/church cause I knew ahead of time who I wanted. And I booked the photographer/videographer in the beginning of December, and then I booked limos 2 weeks ago. I also got my dress in the beginning of December. I haven't booked flowers yet, but we're using a family friend, so there's really no worries/rush there. My thing is I'm not one to go nuts shopping around so much. I've read a lot through these message boards, so I considered it my research. So when I went places, I had an idea of whether I was getting a decent enough deal or not. And that helped me to book right on the spot, rather than going to a ton of different places and driving myself nuts.
So even if you pick a date earlier than November, I'd say try to make sure that you can make decisions very quickly. Because if you can do that, I think you can get your wedding planned for whatever date you end up choosing. Also, be open to the fact that your first choice of things might be booked, but there are def tons of other places, DJs, photographers, etc out there that you can find!
Also, I'd say when going to some of these halls, rather than throwing out dates to them in 2008, ask them first, do you have any cancellations? Because if they have a cancellation date which happens to be the first of the month like you want, you can probably get it for a great deal. One of my co-workers did that so they had gotten a great deal, but had to plan their wedding in 6 months!!! So I recommend asking them of their available cancellations. Cause if you go in there saying I want the 1st of the month for these months, do you have availability, I could see places saying oh yeah it's available, and charging you the regular high prices, rather than giving you a deal because it was actually a cancelled date.
One other thing, August might be do-able. When I was checking out places, I was told August is not as popular as it once was in the past, because it's such a hot month, and many people are opting to avoid that month due to the heat.

If you really want to do the 1st of any month....I would just start contacting possible venues and see if the date is even available. August, or November are totally do able (time frame wise) as long as you don't have specific vendors in mind (because they may already be booked). If you're open to vendors, check out RH's first...right away...to see if they are available and plan your date according to that. Good luck...welcome...and congrats!!

Congrats!!!! I am with many of the girls who said 11/1/08 is the best date for this year. We've really enjoyed our time being engaged and glad we had enough of it (15 months!!). I would start first to see if any halls you like are available and then check around for other vendors (photog, florist, DJ, etc)... Unless there is someone specific you had your heart set on then call them first before you book anything. I would take your time & enjoy- but that JMHO... Good Luck!!! & welcome

Re: Please help me! First of the month?
Congratulations on your engagement!
As far as which date, I would consider a few things:
1) How much time do you have to dedicate yourself to the wedding? If both you and FH are very busy, I would shoot for November.
2) How many 'extras' do you want (DIY projects, photo montages, etc.) Putting this stuff together takes time. If so, again, shoot for November. But, if you pretty much just want the basics: a hall, DJ, flowers, etc., and you have some time, you can do June or August. (Although I suspect, since June is a popular month, a lot may be booked).
Just so you know, I am going to be engaged less than 9 months when we get married, and we basically planned the major stuff in 4 months. And we did a lot of research! So it can be done.
Also, keep in mind, the month before the wedding is very hectic, with last minute details.
