Ok so it has been months now and I am still having a hard time building my number. I feel like I am always posting but I guess not enough!! Please Help me!!

I hear you. Thank god FH was a saver before me b/c I can't save anything and I was making more than him. I lived in an APT. above my parents house and I use to complain about that. If you want send me your resume and I'll hand it in for you. My district starts at 54,000 fresh out of undergrad w/ no extra credits

I know how tough it is to get a job. After I graduated w/ my BA. I began teaching in a private school w/ spec. ed. kids DDI
After 4 years I got a leave replacement in garden City. Of course the speech teacher came back so the following year I didn't have a job. During that time I was finishing up my master's degree in Spec. ed and Elem ed
I then began working in Queens. I was in howard beach 3 days and Far rockaway 2 days. Hated it, hated the commute and thought I would rather do private through an agency b4 going back to queens the following year
uh its so tough!! one of my BM is an english teacher and its a little easier to find secondary jobs but even she has bounced around from one school to the next cause they are mostly all leave replacements!
Then I ended up getting a .5 speech and .5 spec ed. position in Kings park. That was awesome. But of course their budget didn't pass and I got excessed. Beside that my cousin was killed on sunrise hwy. May of that year and she was my BF as well. So I lost all motivation to even look for a job.
a lot of people think after i get married i should just go under FHs insurance and become a permanent sub somewhere to get my foot in the door in a LI school...but i cant go from being a fulll time teacher to a sub..u know?? so im just 'serving my time' in the city till i can find something better haha
My friend was going on Maternity leave from the district i went to West Babylon and she asked if i would do her 4th grade leave. Her principal wante dto meet with me so that practically fell right into my hands. It was the first time teaching in a classroom. It was great. i was there from the 2nd week in Sept. to The end of Feb.
Then a speech leave replacement opened up also in WB in another relem. school and I was hired for the rest of the year to fill that. But of course nothing for the following year

Oh I forgot btw. Queens and Kings Park I got a job in Sachem for a year leave. Of course the speech teacher came back the next year. Of course that would have been great now w/ where I live.
Going through Summers never knowing if I had a job in Sept. ******. Finally after interviewing in every distrioct on the island I landed my job at Hewlett-Woodmere. My commute from Babylon wasn't bad but now it's horrendous. I got this job in 2004. This is my third year. I began 2004 w/ nothing then the last week in Sept. I was called for 3 interviews in 3 different districts andwhat a great feeling when I was offered all three positions and I got to choose. I now do .8 speech and .2 spec. ed.

Sorry for my life story but figured I would fill you in on my journey of teaching. Yes my Cousin was my BF and we looked a lot a like. She was a party animal but yet very quiet. I turned her on to the hampton scene. We were trouble when we would go out. I was loud and she was my audience but when I stopped going out b/c of Bf's she made new friends and continued to go out. everybody knew her. After she was killed it was 2 weeks b4 Memorial day 2003 they did a moment of silence at the Boardy barn and CPI. I thought that was cool. Also, the Boardy barn put a picture of her up and they donated a scholarship in her name at her school.
maybe ull meet my cousin next year! i dont think she takes speech..but she might get resource room or something (i think i vaguely remember my aunt and uncle saying she got extra help)..when u say u teach special ed..is it an actual special ed class? or is it something like resource room?

oh noi saw ur profile and her pic..thats soo sad!! that must have been so hard to go through!! i dont know what i would do id my best friend wasnt around anymore... i cant even tell u how many times i counted my blessings when i was in an accident last year with Fh in the car...my car actually flipped over and neither of us even had a scratch
