I ordered a Demetrios gown from Macy*s in Manhasset. Originally there was a dress in Iman that I loved, but my mom (who's paying) kept pressing that it was too expensive. She wasn't really excited about my engagement or dress shopping with me. My father passed away a few years ago and she just kept saying how hard this was for her to do without him. Anyways, so we went to a few other shops and I wasn't finding anything I liked and she kept complaining that she was sick of looking. So, to make it easier for her I invited one of my BMs to go with me and she freaked that it was the MOB's job and inappropriate for a friend to go, so I canceled with my buddy and we went to Macy*s.
That night I got a dress. I didn't love it, I liked it, but I didn't love it. Problems crept in though when it was ordered. The gown had a champagne sash, which was the accent piece, but my Mom insisted that it be ivory because 'brides wear all white'. So SHE ordered it in ivory. Then as time went on, she was so happy I ordered something, I just kept telling myself that I would like it too, but I didn't.
Ergo my dress poll and comments over the past few days. I wasn't trying to be a debbie downer, and I'm sorry if I came off that way. I was just worried about the dress fitting this weekend.
And then yesterday came. When the woman unzipped the garment bag I burst into tears.
$2500 and I hate it.
Charmaine (the manager of Macy*s) was a doll. She spent probably 3+hours with us trying to help. She offered to add lace to the bottom to even out the look (as of now it's just plain silk) and decrease the sash size so I wouldn't hate it so much .... but needless to say I'm still just so disappointed. They think they can fix it so I like it better, and I hope they're right: the wedding is in May, my options are minimal.
I'm going to attach pictures of the original dress, 2 I took in the fitting room, and a photoshop job I did decreasing the size of the sash to see what it would look like after alterations.
I've been crying nonstop since our appointment at 2pm yesterday (Monday). And to make things worse, my Mom is so angry with me and keeps telling me I need therapy.
So I'm posting this to a) tell girls who are shopping not to settle, find something you love and; b) see if you guys have any suggestions on how to alter the gown or whatever else. I'm the only one of my friends getting married right now and I'm afraid they'll just think I'm bridezilla if I relay this story. I know it's the man, not the gown but who doesn't want to look beautiful on their wedding day?
Thanks for listening

I really love your dress, but I will admit that I love the dress with the original champagne sash. Other than that, I think it looks beautiful and fits you sooo well.

Re: Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN
I'd like the sash better if it had some texture to it. I was going to suggest replacing it with a sash made of lace but then you said it cannot be removed. Can you maybe to a sheer lace overlay to add something to the sash, hopefully without adding bulk to the dress?

I love your dress and I am not just saying that either, I agree with the others though I like the champagne sash a little better, I am sure if you found the right seamstress it could be removed. However if you think that you still will not love it then can you sell it??? Try to find one that you are totally in love with because it is very important. I am so sorry to hear how your mother is acting but this is probably a very difficult time for her and she is taking it out on you. Hold your head high, you have enough time to make any changes that you need to. Good Luck!!

Re: Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN
After reading your post, I thought the dress would look bad............but it doesn't!! It really looks nice on you. What kind of dress were you thinking about? If you could change, what style would you choose? I can relate though about dress anxiety! I have doubts about my dress too thanks to MY mom! gotta love them.
Don't worry.......you will look beautiful on that day and your FH will be so happy to see his bride in this dress!

i think you look nice in it!! I think the sash adds that lil something extra! Dont cry..you will make a beautiful bride!!!
Also i think leaving the sash as is the better route...it draws the eye to that tiny waist!!
I second this!!!!

I like the brooch idea too, even if the sash was in the champagne color would look great too. If that's your color scheme ofcourse.

I actually think it is a gorgeous gown. I know the only thing that matters is what you think, but maybe if you take a strep back, you will feel better about it. I think the brooch idea is a great one. I also like the sash the way it is. Good luck and try to keep your chin up

it's pretty.. I think though that I liked the taupe colored sash a little better, but if you don't like the dress, honey, order something else.. it's your day and YOU have to be happy

I think your gown is gorgeous. I kinda like it with the smaller sash if they can do that. Also, what if they put a lace overlay over the bottom of the dress? Maybe that wouldn't be so plain to you!

Wow- I am know that you have to like the dress not me but in my opinion you look great. I love how the sash accentuates your waist. The top is beautiful but if you wanted a little more I think some lace and beading on the bottom would balance out the simplicity of the bottom. Good Luck whatever you decide to do. You should feel comfortable on your day so I would do whatever it takes to be happy.

I think its a lovely dress. I like the suggestion of adding a sparly brooch to the center of the sash to jazz it up a bit. It fits you wonderfully. Don;t be upset!

your dress is NOT bad at all...and i think with the whole nice hairstyle, gorgeous makeup, perphaps a brooch in the front, and some nice accessories [jewelry] and the right shoes you will make a beautiful bride!!!

Re: Please Help Me - I HATE MY GOWN
I think the dress is gorgeous-either way. If its the sash that you really dont love why not try going to macys and seeing if the can order you just a sash from the manufacturer? If not, try Davids Bridal and see if you can order a sash from there, since they have those dresses that have the optional colored sash. then find someone who can take off the old and add the new.
If not-I love the brooch idea, I think it would definitely give your dress some oomph where needed. GOod Luck, the dress is gorgeous BUT you are the one that needs to happy in it!
