Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

I am trying to make the black and white photo with only the flowers in color, but everytime I erase the black and white, I don't see the color in the back. When it was explained to me it all seemed so easy, but now it's just frustrating. Help me!!!! TIA!

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

this is how I work in Photoshop. Use the photo as the background, and layers above it on the layer list. Make a layer name you like, such as 'color1', in the pull down to the top left of the layer list, pull it down to multiply fo rhtat colored layer. Add the color over the black and white. You can then change the color photo under the color by selecting it then making it lighter or darker,(adjust,brighness/contrast) or deleting it. You will probably want to keep the black and white photo under the colored area because it will give the colored area definition and shadow.

Hope this helps.

PS. I am on Photophop right now at work so ask me anything!

It should look something like this...

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

Thanks! I'm going to try it right now.

Okay so I tried and I'm a moron - I can't get it to work. The photo is originally color, so when I try to make a black and white copy, it erases the layers and leaves me with just the black and white.

I open the color photo
Create a layer (Layer---> duplicate layer)
Then I try to change the first layer to greyscale and my duplicate layer disappears.

I also tried to layer via copy, and then I get the color version and b&w on the desktop at the same time, but when I erase part of the b&w photo, all I see is white instead of the color behind it.

And I though Adobe was supposed to be easy!

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

ok, so instead of coloring over it, you want to 'cut away from the color and add to the black and white?

Try this...

Take the color photo, select ath area you want colored, then right click and hit select inverse. You are still on the original layer (color photograph). with that area still selected(background) go to Image, adjust desaturate, to make the background Black and white.

Is this how you want to do it?

Remember to save as first!
Hope this helps.

Okay I'm trying to do it that way. I had to use the magnetic lasso tool to highlight the area I want color. But under Image, I do not have a desaturate choice. When I choose mode and make it greyscale, everything goes b&w, including what is lassoed.

I think I need a private tutor!!!

under image, adjust, hue/saturation, put the saturation down to 0

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

ps. I hate the magnetic lasso!!!! Try the poly lasso instead, you just have to click alot, but it looks much better. To add to your selection, just hit the shift key while you select more(hit it before and while using the lasso). To select less, hit the Alt key while you select.

Let me know how it goes!

Image across the top toolbar?

I don't have adjust as a choice.

These are my choices across the top toolbar:

File
Edit
Image (where I first looked - not there)
Enhance
Layer
Select
Filter
View
Window
Help

I looked in all of them and can't find it!

OK - I found some icon that says Color Variations when I click on it, and I sort of did it. But the color area looks washed out.

Thanks for all your help!!!!

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

I think I finally did it! I kind of looks sepia-tone instead of b&w but it looks nice - thank you so much!!!!

Re: Please help me with Adobe photoshop!!!

it should be in image, adjust, the hue/saturation.

also, ou can go to image, adjust, variations. This will show you different variations of you black and white selection.

Hope it looks good! Good Luck!

You're Welcome!
