Please help me with budget!!!

Since our engagement party was just on saturday, FH & I are opening a joint account which will be for the wedding.

We are trying to come up with an aprox budget for the wedding but I have no idea of where to start with what each thing costs..

Can you ladies please give me a list of what you guys are paying for everything.

ex: hall, photog, flowers, etccc

It will be much appreciated and helpful!!

Thank you!!!

The most expensive expense is the RH so apart from amount of guests it also depends on time of year/day of week.

I feel like a budget can vary so much...you could throw a wedding for 300 guests at $30,000 or a wedding for 100 guests at $100,000.

I think the best place to start is to figure out how much you can afford overall.

ITA. You may also want to decide on what is going to be most important to you and where you want to splurge and where you wan to save. Like for example, photography was super important to me so I spent more on that and saved a little on my dress.

You and FH need to determine how much you want to spend, yoiu need to have some idea of what you can afford. Is anyone in the family helping you? or is it just you and FH.

Asking what others are spending really wont help, it will just make things harder for you because their income/financial situation is not yours.
Def go to the knot.com-it should give you an idea..

Went to the knot and definetly got an idea.. thanks for the help ladies..

No help from anyone, this is all on FH & I.. we have NO money saved, except for what we got for our engagement party this past weekend and do not make alot of money. So this is going to be extremily hard for us. I'm actually starting to second guess our RH choice. [good thing we didnt book yet]

Re: Please help me with budget!!!

Here is what I'm spending so far:

$65 pp ++ for 70-80 people
$3000 on photographer
$1000 on DJ
$ 1000 on string quartet for the ceremony
$ 500 on stationary

Keep in mind that I am having a Thursday night wedding so all of my vendors lowered their normal prices for me because of my date. There is also a thread called how much are you spending on your vendors. I'll bump it up for you.
Good luck !

The average wedding on Long Island in 2009 cost $26,000 (though i sort of have a hard time believing that number) ... if you keep things fairly simple (low centerpieces, no DJ extras like uplighting and whatnot, etc) you could be around that.

Don't forget about your honeymoon! Though a lot of people are having a mini-moon and then a 'real' honeymoon on their one year anniversaries.

Re: Please help me with budget!!!

The honeymoon I'm not really worrying about.. I could go to PA for the weekend and not care. lol

but everything else I am.. Im not into flowers for centerpieces anyway, so being that it's a fall wedding I'm prolly doing pumkins with leaves which ill DIY to save money there.

I am also thinking of not getting a videographer to save money on that.

I thought having a wedding planned 3 years in advance would be easy but im flipping out cuz it's not even enough time!!

Don't forget to add in the tips for everyone. That can add $$$$ to your bottom line.

Don't over-stress ... there's no rush to get married!

Reception hall prices range from about $50-150 per person (plus tip + taxes on top of that) ... of course, some are much more than that, especially if you get extras.

Have you considered having a destination wedding, or perhaps a wedding on a cruise ship (you could do a 1 night cruise to nowhere for about $200 per person).

Re: Please help me with budget!!!

here's what we are spending:

RH: $115 pp -- approx $32,000
Flowers: $3250
Band: $2500 (but this is not a wedding band and it's a family friend's band)
Photo/Video: $5500

HTH!

I also found the knot tool to be pretty off with some stuff. They said we needed like $7000 for a DJ

ETA: we're having approx 200 ppl

agreed.. i was beyond stressed out for the last 6 months... but after talking to some ladies on here, i feel a bit calm... do the best you can!!

there are many people who are getting married with less than $20k and they still have FAB weddings... its not about how much you spend on the wedding, its all about you and the FH in the end..
