Please help me....I need help with a song(kinda long)

I'm starting to get really upset over trying to find a song to dance with my father to. I keep changing my mind and he basically wants me to decide.

Background is that my parents split when I was less then 2 yrs old and I saw my dad two times untill I was 19...then we started to talk again and over the last 10 years have formed a good relationship. I know he loves me to death as I do him and I want to pick this song to express some of that, but I cant seem to find anything. None of the typical 'daddy' or Father/Daughter songs seem to apply since more or less he didnt raise me until I was close to an adult already.

Please...any suggestions are appreciated. I feel like crying trying to find something that fits and expresses how happy I am with where we are today in our lives as I get married.

I can relate to that... My parents divorced when I was 3, and while I did see my father in the summers (he lived in VA while I was on LI) I don't feel that most songs really fit our relationship (I cry almost every time I listen to Butterfly Kisses knowing that I can't use it since it's not true)...

I think I'm going with Lullaby by Billy Joel... Then there's always 'Wind Benath My Wings'

It's kind of weird since I knew immediatly which song I wanted to dance with my Step-father with, but have been struggling with my own father...

My dad and I are going to dance to Paul Simon's 'Father and Daughter.' He is a big fan of the singer/songwriters of the style so it fits. He also didn't like any of the typical father/daughter dance tunes.

I am unfamiliar with the song, so I can't say if I like the melody. But definately like the lyrics.

I picked this song because of the words and melody, she sings it beautifully. Do a song seach so you can listen to it . The minute I heard it I knew this was the song for my father and me.

Hmmm... 'through the years' by Kenny Rogers might work - there's a line in it where he says something about loving the person, even through the years 'where everything went wrong' - which applies in a lot of divorced families. (Mine, too - my parents split when I was 16.) I also like all the ideas posted here. Also, my friend (who also did not get along with dad for a long time when she was younger b/c of divorce) picked 'the way you look tonight' by Frank Sinatra - nothing about yesterday or tomorrow, just loving how you look so happy on your wedding day. And, my stepsister picked 'My Girl' by the Temptations - all about the happiness the girl brings to him right now - nothing about the past. Good luck - I know it's hard.
