For the hall, the service fee (20%) is the tip? So, we don't have to tip the wait staff (paid service fee for food) or the bartender (paid service fee for bar)?
So we only have to tip the maitre d' and the valet?

you're right.... that's all we did... we just tipped the maitre 'D. my hall's gratuity charge covered all wait staff, bartenders and valet parkers.

You would have to check with your hall. At mine, the 18% service fee was NOT for the wait staff and I separately tipped them. the banquet manager told me that when I left my final payment. I did not tip the valet guy because everyone tips them. I ‘pre tipped’ the bartender because I DID NOT want a tip cup or anything on the bar.

that sounds about right. our hall gave us a sheet with who gets tips and recommended tip ranges. tacky, but helpful.
