please help. question about age and invitees with guest...

two of my BM's
(FH's little cousins) have boyfriends now...

they are ages 14 and 17 ( ) i'm not obligated to invite them with guests to my wedding now, right?

not that i care what ettiquette says anyway though...

IMO 14 and 17 year olds are too young for steady boyfriends and bringing them to weddings as guests...

what do you all think???

Re: age

That's a toughie. I think what I did was, anyone 18 or over is invited with a guest.

I would invite them to keep peace in the family. Remember you were once that age, and going to a party or celebration without the person your dating can be boring. Thats just my opinion.

actually, i wasn't dating at that age...as far as keeping the peace...the only thing i would worry about is them being all huffy and uncooperative as a result...which would really piss me off...but i don't think i need to invite two teenagers (and consequently pay for them) just to keep two BM's happy...

no, I wouldn't invite them.
If it was just the 17 year old & she had been dating him for a while & th family knew him well, then I might.

My bridesmaid is 16 & I am sending her her own invitation but not inviting her with a guest. I'm not sure if she had a boyfriend, but if she does he hasn't met the family yet.

IMO 14 is definetly too young for a guest - what is she in 8th grade? The 17 yr old is a toughie - if she has been dating him for awhile & he attends other family functions I would say that you may want to but I dont find it necessary.

I think a 17 year old can have a serious relationship. But all the same, I wouldn't be hard pressed about deciding to cut them out.

17 year old with . . . . 14 year old without.

My 17 year old sister will start college in August, I think a date is appropriate.

i would invite both new boyfriends

at that age and everything is new to them on the relationship front, they are probably think they're in 'love'

if they were just guests, i'd say it wasn't necessary, but teenagers can be bitter and spiteful when they do not get their way and the last thing you want to do is to disrupt your bridal party with 2 PO'ed bridesmaids.

so ask yourself what's worse having two underage couples or two PO'ed and uncooperative bridesmaids?

i normally thought it was 18+...
you could send the invite without the guests, and if they really want the bf;s there and you dont mind then allow it i guess...

Under 18, no guest - that was my rule. I wouldn't even think twice about it, especially with the 14 year old, but I wouldn't really sweat the 17 year old either.

I hate to sound like the b*tch - but there is no way - with how much weddings cost - i would invite a teenager with a guest. THis is not a family BBQ -this is a wedding and I presume that it is not cheap per person!! You remember how we all were at that age - who knows if they will still be going out by the time of your wedding!
JMHO!!!

we gave any adults or people who had 'serious' (as in longer than 6 months or so!) the option to bring them....for some reason, i think 14 and 17 is a little young...just my opinion though!

I did the same thing. It was tough, one cousin was 18 and her sister was sixteen. Although I felt bad about inviting the one with and the other without, I just had to draw the line somewhere. Luckily there were no problems. I think people understand that a wedding is expensive and you can only have so many people. You have to draw the line somewhere. And if they don't understand, screw um!!!

Supposedly, according to etiquette, you only need to invite someone with a guest if they have been dating a year or more. I didn't do that, most singles that were adults, we invited with guests. We didn't invite teenager's with guests though. I really wouldn't think that was necessary. Especially if they are nieces, they are being invited as part of family.
