regarding the bridal shower. my sisters is coming up and we are just now getting the list together. there are a few people - family mostly, that live out of state, at least a plane ride away. now we know they will most liely not come, so if we still invite them knowing they are not coming, is that just looking for a gift?? i say no, they are family and this way its more of an announcement then an invitation. but my mom says its just looking for gifts. any feedback greatly appreciated!

Re: please help settle a dispute
In my opinion, if they are aunts and cousins, they should be invited.
But, if they're your parent's cousins then it's too far of a relation to invite if you already know they cant' come.

IMO if they are close enough to even be invited to the shower, they should be no matter where they live. to me it's a courtesy to them

If you think that you are being considerate by not inviting them, things will probably backfire on you because those family members might get offended. IMO, if they get an invitation and they want to send a gift, they will and if they don't want to send a gift then they won't. But it think it would be best to leave it up to them and still invite them.

I agree, DH's cousin who lives in FL, wasn't going to come (I knew that) and she came!! I was so surprised, it was really nice.

That was exactly what I was going to say. Leave the ball in their court

I think they should be invited as well, but with no expectation that they will be able to attend...you never know, one of them may want to fly in for it and you avoid hurt feelings by just sending the invite in the first place....

If they are being invited to the wedding, then they should also be invited to the shower, no matter if you think they are coming or not. It's a courtesy to them and they might be offended if you DON'T invite them. I say, invite them! It can't hurt!!!

Re: please help settle a dispute
i would say if it is very immediate family...like people that you keep in contact with often not just family members that you see once in a blue moon, i would send them an invite. otherwise dont send anything. thats the way that my family is doing my shower.
