Please help settle a stupid argument...UPDATE

This argument is so stupid, I can't even believe we're having it, but oh well.....

We're packing to go to Vegas for the weekend. The original intention was that we would both bring large duffle bags so that they can be carried on and we wouldn't have to worry about luggage.

So now FH is worrying about what to do with his tux (he's in the BP). I told him you're allowed 2 carryons on the plane, and I'm sure they have a place for such things.

Then 5 minutes ago, he starts saying we should take one of the huge suitcases that we got as a shower gift and put both of our belongings and clothing in it. This is a huge suitcase, big enough for about 2 weeks worth of clothing. I told him it was stupid, we're only going away for 2 days, there's no need to have something that big, and time would be better spent sight seeing than waiting for luggage at the carousel at 10:30 at night.

Now he says he wants to bring his suitcase, I still plan on bringing my duffel bag.

Who is right here? Should we both bring duffel bags? Should we just put both of our things in one suitcase? I'm asking this as I hear him throwing clothes around in the other room.

UPDATE: I told him the general consensus on the boards was to bring a duffel bag, and just as I was telling him......he was packing his clothes in a duffel bag!!!

Duffel bag= no lost luggage

I agree.. can't he hang the Tux on the plane, in a garment bag.

The plane allows you to bring a carry on and a personal item.

Last December FH and I flew to PR for a wedding. We each packed a carry on bag, and then used a garment bag for his suit and my dress. We were allowed to to hang the garment bag in the closet on the plane.

It's not a good idea to put everything inone bag. Heaven forbid the bag is late or lost, neither one of you will have anything.

I say take the two duffel bags, and a garment bag for the tux.

The two carry ons are the best way to go. They will hang his tux in the closet.
I never check luggage if I don't have to.
I have had my bags lost twice.

Take the garmet bag. The flight attendants are always helpful in taking them to the closest for you. We can't all be wrong.....

Yes, I travel all the time and they always offer to hang the suit jackets for the men - let him read this post and tell us when you win the argument!!

I guess I'm in the minority here. I hate when people carry on luggage and never do it myself. I travel a lot for work, and have nearly committed felonies against other passengers on planes that were trying to jam their suitcase into the overheard.

I was on a plane once where they made us hold out coats in our laps because there wasn't enough carry on space. I can't tell you how irritating it was to be told that I needed to hold my full length wool coat in my lap for 5 hours because other passengers had to jam all their worldly posessions into the overhead. I called the airline and complained...I know, I'm a crabby old woman.

Anyway, if your duffles aren't very big, I guess it's ok to carry them on, but keep in mind that 'carry-on' luggage should really only be a small overnight bag.

No I know exactly what you're talking about and it bothers me also. I never carry on anything that would have to be stored in the overhead compartments. If I can't slide it under my seat, then I check it in at the counter. It's very irritating to stand on the plane waiting to get through because one person needs to shove a suitcase that should have been checked into the overhead bin.

Glad things worked out Janna, makes a lot more sense then lugging around a gigundo suitcase.
