She is teething and doesn't just nip, she BITES. And even when I put a toy or a chew stick in her mouth when she is doing it, she only wants to bite my hands. I have cuts all over my hands. Help!!!!

Re: PLEASE help to get Casey to stop biting

Is she a puppy? When we got Sophie, she would not stop biting like crazy. It hurt so badly! I really started to get concerned that she was part pitbull or something! One night, I came home and my DH was furious! She bit him in the head. I really thought we were going to have to get rid of her. But I eventually learned that this is what puppies do because they are teething and because they want to play. The solution is twofold. First, they will eventually grow out of it if you follow these instructions: Every time she bites you, say no, but avoid eye contact. Walk away and don't look at her. Once she stops biting you for a few seconds then start playing with her. But if she bites again, do the same thing. Say no, then turn away from her. In other words, don't give her any attention when she bites. Sophie is now three and she is the most amazing dog. She completely grew out of that annoying mouthing behavior. Here is a picture for inspiration.

Re: PLEASE help to get Casey to stop biting

Scooby is almost 7 months old now and we notice he isn't biting as much. I don't know if he's not teething right now or if I handled it properly. Whenever he licks my hands or face, I say 'Niiiice'. He's learned the meaning and whenever he would bite, I would turn my hand palm side up and say 'Niiiice'. Unless he was very excited or playful, he would stop biting and lick me instead. I also had plenty of bite toys handy for when he was very excited and nothing else would calm him.
I know how upsetting this is. You think they will never outgrow it and actually fear that it will get worse. I have grandchildren who love to play with him and I so much worried that he would bite them. Good luck.

Re: PLEASE help to get Casey to stop biting

I agree with am470 - we did the same thing (except I would yelp like an injured dog when Bama bit me!) If you avoid them after they bite you, then they realize that playtime is over. Don't look at them either because eye contact is a form of giving them attention.

This worked like a charm with us. Bama will still bite DH when he plays with him but he bites soft like he's supposed to.

Good luck!
