I posted on BHB but they don't seem to want me to do what I want to do.
FH's dad died in 1995. We are having a program. It says Parents of the bride, and then
John and Joan Smith
then it says Parents of the Groom
His dad is still his parent, whether he is alive or not. We don't want to list just his mom.
How do we word it
Sally and the late Robert Brown?
Help please!

Thank you. That's the kind of advice I want - like is it appropriate to reference 'the late' in a program. You vote yes. Or is there another way to say it, I guess.
Thanks!!!

Re: Please help with wording
Yes, I would also say Mrs. Jane Smith and the late Mr. Joe Smith.
You can also put this poem in, which I love, as my dad passed away too:
We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, and days before that too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have are memories, and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping; we have you in our hearts.

Re: Please help with wording
I don't personally like the word 'late' in there. It isn't inappropriate, I just think it sounds nicer not to highlight his passing. I agree with the other girls about putting a poem or something in the program, not only for FH's dad but for all of your loved ones who have passed.

I don't love 'late' either, but I think if we list both of them 'Joan and John Smith' people who don't know won't realize FH's dad died and think he is present and there.
FH really wants him on that page, he says they are both his parents. I don't know how to say it, other than 'late,' but i'm hung up with the word 'late' Although it's better than saying deceased, I think.

I think that if you want to put the word 'late' in than by all means do. I can tell you that if I read that on a program I wouldn't think there was anything wrong with it.
I also think that whatever you and FH feel in your hearts you want to do, is what is right. I think it is wonderful to list his dad's name on there.

I think it's ok to put 'late' in the program if your FH is ok with it worded that way. I don't think it's really inappropriate -- it's a fact. I love the memorium poems -- I had something like that in ours too and I listed all our grandparents who have passed away.

Well, it is still his dad. If you put a memorial poem right under with his name, people who don't know you well will put it all together. I'd ask FH what he prefers

Re: Please help with wording
If you don't want to put 'late', could you put Mrs. Sally Smith and Mr. John Smith (year of birth -- year of death)?
I think you and FH should do what makes you comfortable in acknowledging your parents.

Re: Please help with wording
My fiance's father passed away and on the invitation we wrote:
Mr. and Mrs. MY LAST NAME invite you to the wedding of Carly Rebecca and BENJAMIN DAVID, son of Kathy LAST NAME and the late JAMES Last Name.
Then in the program, we did parents: Ellen - Mother of the Bride Fred - Father of the Bride Kathy - Mother of the Groom Minnie - Grandmother of the Bride Elaine - Grandmother of the Bride
In Memorium: James - Father of the Groom Stanley - Grandfather of the Bride.
Hope this helps!
AND ITS YOURRRR wedding - put whatever makes you feel good!
